BASEBALL BREAKS 21 YEAR OLD PROGRAM RECORD IN 23-2 WIN

Myrtle Beach, SC – The Chargers won big in the Monday evening matchup with Western Connecticut State. The Chargers broke the program record for team hits in a game, as the team combined for 28 hits. 

Rapid Recap: 

  • Micah McMannus (Beverly, MA) started on the mound for the Chargers, and Braden Barron started on the mound for the Wolves.  

  • In the bottom of the 1st inning, Evan Dennis (East Ryegate, VT) hit an RBI single to score Dylan Watson (Byfield, MA) for the first run of the game to put the Chargers up by one. Later in the inning, Sean Roeger (Salem, NH) hit an RBI sac fly to put the Chargers up by two. 

  • In the 2nd inning, Watson, Dennis, and Mike McLeer (Saco, ME) all hit RBI singles to make it a 5-0 Charger lead.  

  • Devin Montalvo (Coram, NY) stepped up to the plate to hit an RBI triple in the 3rd for the Chargers. Later in the inning, Jesse Chaves (Taunton, MA) hit an RBI double. Watson would add to the scoring by hitting a two-run home run. 

  • McLeer scored in the 4th. Nick Johnson (Manchester, NJ) hit an RBI single into center field. Later in the inning, Noah Staffier (Beverly, MA) would score. 

  • In the 5th inning, Roeger, Staffier, Montalvo, Chaves, and Watson all earned RBIs for Colby-Sawyer. 

  • In the top of the 7th inning, Joe Fasano scored for the Wolves. 

  • In the bottom of the 7th, Grant Davis (Dover, NH) hit an RBI sac fly for the Chargers. 

  • Justin Reo scored a run for the Wolves in the 8th. 

  • In the 8th inning for the Chargers offense, Chris D'Angelo (Billerica, MA) and Davis hit RBIs, Jared Schmitt (Surry, NH) hit a 2 RBI triple, and Roeger scored a run. 

  • The Chargers won the game 23-2. 

Inside the Numbers: 

  • McMannus pitched five innings giving up no runs and threw seven strikeouts in the process. McMannus earned his first collegiate win. 

  • Johnson was 4-5 from the plate. Johnson hit two doubles in the win. Watson was 3-5 from the plate and recorded one home run and four RBIs. 

  • Giani Chieffalo was 2-4 from the plate for the Wolves. 

  • The Chargers broke the program record for hits in a game, as the Chargers combined for 28 hits. 

  • The Chargers broke the program record for triples in a game, as the Chargers hit four triples. Davis, McLeer, Montalvo, and Schmitt each hit a triple on Monday.

The Chargers will play Hobart College at 4pm on Tuesday.
