BASEBALL HEADS INTO SPRING TRIP IN THE WIN COLUMN

Boston, MA – Jacob Putnam's (North Haverhill, NH) grand slam in the 6th inning played a big role in the Chargers' 12-7 win over Wentworth on Tuesday evening.  

Rapid Recap: 

  • Micah McMannus (Beverly, MA) was the starting pitcher for the Chargers, and Tommy Crowley was the starting pitcher for the Leopards. 

  • Connor Fowler (Hampton Falls, NH) hit an RBI single in the 3rd inning to score Janai Cruz (Manchester, NH) and put the Chargers up 1-0. Mike McLeer (Saco, ME) hit an RBI double to bring Fowler into home plate. McLeer and Evan Dennis (East Ryegate, VT) would also score runs in the inning. The Chargers led 4-0 going into the bottom of the 3rd inning. 

  • Andrew Pantano and Christian Roncal both scored runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Josh Turcotte hit an RBI double for the Leopards to tie the game 4-4. 

  • In the top of the 5th inning, Evan Dennis hit an RBI double to put the Chargers up by one. 

  • In the bottom of the 5th inning, Turcotte hit an RBI double to tie the game up. 

  • In the top of the 6th inning, Fowler was walked with the bases loaded to bring Sean Roeger (Salem, NH) into home plate. Putnam stepped up to the plate next and delivered a grand slam to left field to put the Charges up 10-5. 

  • In the bottom of the 6th, Nick Cullinan hit a 2 RBI single to make the score 10-7. 

  • Roeger and Devin Montalvo (Coram, NY) scored in the top of the 7th. 

  • The Chargers won the game 12-7. 

Inside the Numbers: 

  • McMannus pitched the first four innings and recorded four strikeouts. 

  • Rex Hill (Andover, VT), Ryan Kane (Franklin, MA), and Jared Schmitt (Surry, NH) combined to pitch the last five innings and combined for five strikeouts. 

  • Putnam was 2-4 on the day and hit his first career home run. 

  • Fowler ended the day on two RBIs. 

  • Turcotte recorded two hits and three RBIs for the Leopards. 

  • The Chargers combined for eight hits on the day.

The Chargers will next travel to Myrtle Beach, SC for their spring trip. The Chargers' next game will be on Saturday in Myrtle Beach against The College at Old Westbury at 6pm.
