Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

WOMEN'S LACROSSE WINS HOME OPENER OVER SALVE REGINA

New London, NH – Grace Joly (Windham, ME) and Rose Finlayson (Hopkinton, NH) both netted hat tricks as the Colby-Sawyer women's lacrosse team improved to 2-0 this season in their home opener. 

Rapid Recap: 

  • Less than a minute into the game, Joly opened the scoring to give the Chargers a 1-0 lead. The strong start continued about a minute later as Lauren Vignola (Ringwood, NJ) scored the second Charger goal of the game. With 9:08 left in the first quarter, Finlayson netted a goal to put the Chargers up by three. Elena Bronson (Monkton, VT) added another for Colby-Sawyer, becoming the fourth Charger to score in the game. With just under three minutes to go in the first quarter, Madison Maire put the Seahawks on the board to make it a 4-1 scoreline. Joly added another goal before the end of the quarter. 

  • Joly completed the hat trick less than six minutes into the second quarter. Cecilia Ponzini (Windham, NH) assisted Joly on the goal. Madeline Knight (Pownal, ME) assisted Finlayson's second goal of the game. The Chargers led going into the halftime break. 

  • Vignola scored from a free-position shot with 9:02 to go in the third quarter. Alix Madden assisted Delia Tarasco for the second Seahawks goal of the game. 

  • Addison Glavin (Andover, MA) made two big plays at the start of the fourth quarter, including a caused turnover and a save. Ponzini scored for the Chargers just over three minutes into the quarter. Reese Holcomb (Essex Junction, VT) scored a Charger goal about two minutes later. Finlayson scored the 11th Charger goal to complete the hat trick, as Holcomb recorded the assist. Maire scored another goal for the Seahawks with 6:50 to go in the game. Anika Jenkins (Tyngsboro, MA) netted a goal for the Chargers with just over three minutes to go. Avery Nistl assisted Adelaide Baird for the fourth Seahawk goal of the game. Just over a minute later, Maire assisted Daniella Bruno for Salve Regina. The Chargers won the match 12-5. 

Inside the Numbers: 

  • Joly and Finlayson paced the Chargers offense, as both netted hat tricks on the day. 

  • Vignola scored two goals, putting Vignola's season total at eight goals. 

  • Ponzini ended the game with one goal, one assist, four ground balls, and two caused turnovers. 

  • Bethany Rose (Andover, MA) and Glavin combined for four saves on Saturday. 

  • Maire led the Seahawks scoring with two goals. 

  • The Chargers won 14 draw controls.

The Chargers will continue non-conference play on Wednesday, as they travel to take on Fitchburg State University at 4pm.
