BASEBALL FALLS TO TWO TIME DEFENDING NESCAC CHAMPIONS ON THE ROAD

Middlebury, VT – Saturday was opening day for the 2026 Colby-Sawyer Baseball team. The Chargers took on the reigning NESCAC Champions, Middlebury College, in a late February doubleheader. 

Game 1 Rapid Recap: 

  • Will Carpenter (Medfield, MA) was the starting pitcher for the Chargers, and Hank Lloyd was the starting pitcher for the Panthers. 

  • A triple from Henry Ayers in the 1st inning, put the Panthers up 2-0. Gus Parker recorded an RBI single in the 3rd inning. 

  • The Panthers extended their lead, as they scored two runs in the 4th inning. 

  • The Panthers scored four runs in the 5th inning. Mike Hogan (Piermont, NH) recorded three strikeouts for the Chargers in the 5th. 

  • The Panthers extended the lead in the 6th inning. The Panthers won the game 11-0. 

Game 1 Inside the Numbers: 

  • Carpenter recorded three strikeouts in three innings of pitching. 

  • Hogan pitched innings 3 and 4 for the Chargers, while Micah McMannus (Beverly, MA) pitched the 6th inning. 

  • Dylan Watson (Byfield, MA) was 1-3 from the plate in Game 1. 

  • Jesse Chaves (Taunton, MA) was 1-2 from the plate in Game 1.  

  • Aiden Han was 3-4 from the plate for the Panthers in Game 1. 

  • The Chargers combined for 18 putouts. 

Game 2 Rapid Recap: 

  • Watson was the starting pitcher for the Chargers, and Emmet George was the starting pitcher for the Panthers. 

  • After two innings, the game was tied up 0-0.  

  • The Panthers scored four runs in the 3rd inning to take the lead.  

  • The Panthers scored three runs in the 4th inning to extend the lead. 

  • In the 5th inning, Thomas Roy (Durham, ME) hit an RBI single as Devin Montalvo (Coram, NY) scored the first Charger run of the season. 

  • Samuel Kidd scored the 8th run for the Panthers in the bottom of the 5th inning. 

  • With the bases loaded in the top of the 6th, Jacob Putnam (North Haverhill, NH) was hit by a pitch to bring Sean Roeger (Salem, NH) into home plate for the second Charger run of the game. With the bases loaded once again, Watson doubled into left field to bring in three more runs for the Chargers. The Panthers won the game 8-5. 

Game 2 Inside the Numbers: 

  • Watson pitched 2.2 innings, before Brady Young (Stratham, NH) pitched the next two innings. 

  • Anthony DeMarco (Danielson, CT) and Noah Corliss (Sanford, ME) combined to pitch the last two innings. DeMarco and Corliss each pitched one inning, and each recorded one strikeout. 

  • Roeger was 2-4 from the plate, scoring one run in Game 2. 

  • Montalvo was 1-2 from the plate and scored two runs in Game 2. 

  • Andrew Baay ended the game with 3 RBIs for the Panthers. 

  • The Chargers combined for 18 putouts in Game 2. 

Up Next: 

The Chargers will take on Fitchburg State University on Wednesday at 4pm in Rindge, New Hampshire.
