WOMEN'S BASKETBALL KICKS OFF 2026 AGAINST AMCATS

Paxton, MA – The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team took on the AMCATS of Anna Maria College on Saturday in non-conference play. 

Rapid Recap: 

  • Tanner Drury (Bethel, VT) and Makenna Grillone (Walpole, NH) got the scoring started for the Chargers as both drained threes early in the first quarter to put the Chargers up 6-4. After the AMCATS took a 10-6 lead, Elyza Mitchell (Spofford, NH) and Emily Leonard (Chester, NH) converted layups to bring the game even. Grillone would make another three to give the Chargers a three-point advantage. A Catherine Chick (Glen, NH) three-pointer would help the Chargers close out the first quarter with an 18-17 lead. 

  • The AMCATS started the second quarter scoring 10 unanswered points. But the Chargers would remain resilient with Mitchell and Lauren MacDonald (Tilton, NH) both scoring buckets. The AMCATS would lead 38-22 going into the halftime break. 

  • Chick scored a three early on in the third quarter. Drury, Mitchell, and Leonard would all score points in the third as the Chargers would score 19 points altogether in the third quarter. The AMCATS would have a 51-41 lead with one quarter left in the game. 

  • Drury drained a three early in the fourth quarter for the Chargers. Mitchell would score four points to cut the deficit to eight points with six minutes left to go in the game. Grillone, Mitchell, and Drury would all score baskets as the Chargers would trail 59-55 with 2:27 left. Mitchell would score another basket right at the end of the game. The AMCATS would win it 64-58. 

Inside the Numbers: 

  • Mitchell would end the game as the leading scorer and rebounder for the Chargers (20 points and nine rebounds). 

  • Drury finished the game with 11 points and six assists.  

  • Grillone ended the game with 10 points. Grillone has now scored 10+ points in three of the last five games. 

  • Meaghan Doyle led the scoring for the AMCATS with 19 points. 

  • The Chargers scored 22 points in the paint. 

Up Next: 

The Chargers will return to New London to take on Mount Holyoke College on Wednesday for a 12pm start.
