WOMEN'S BASKETBALL ENDS WEEK WITH SECOND STRAIGHT GNAC WIN

New London, NH – The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team won their GNAC matchup on Saturday afternoon against Mitchell College. 

Rapid Recap: 

  • Makenna Grillone (Walpole, NH) and Tanner Drury (Bethel, VT) both made layups early in the first quarter. Moments later, Drury drained a three and Elyza Mitchell (Spofford, NH) made three layups. Soon after, Drury and Emily Leonard (Chester, NH) both scored two from three-point range. Lauren MacDonald (Tilton, NH) made a layup. The Chargers led 29-10 after the first quarter. 

  • Grillone scored an early three in the second quarter. Elyza Mitchell scored two layups and Leonard drained a three. With 3:02 left in the half, Leonard made a layup. With less than two minutes to go in the half, Catherine Chick (Glen, NH) made a layup and Leonard and Drury both made threes. Going into the halftime break, the Chargers led 52-31. 

  • Drury and MacDonald both scored jumpers in the beginning of the second half. About thirty seconds later Leonard scored a layup and made another one soon after. Drury drained a three about halfway through the quarter. MacDonald scored a layup with 3:46 left in the third. Larissa Daigle (Fort Kent, ME) scored three consecutive layups for the Chargers. MacDonald made a layup at the end of the third quarter. The Chargers had the lead with one quarter to go. 

  • MacDonald made a jumper one minute into the fourth quarter. Taylor Fellows (Croydon, NH) scored a three followed by a Grillone layup. Molly Denis (Plattsburgh, NY) made a layup, and moments later scored a three. The Chargers won the match 88-60. 

Inside the Numbers: 

  • Tanner Drury scored 19 points on Saturday, scoring five from three-point range. 

  • Emily Leonard scored 19 points, making four from three from three-point range. 

  • Elyza Mitchell recorded a double-double scoring 12 points and getting 10 rebounds. 

  • Daigle scored a career-high eight points. 

  • Jamya Beddoe scored 18 points for Mitchell. 

  • The Chargers scored 30 fast break points.

The Chargers will next face Norwich in Northfield, Vermont on Tuesday at 5pm.
