Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS TO ELMS COLLEGE

New London, NH – The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team took on Elms College on Saturday afternoon in front of the home crowd at the Hogan Sports Center. 

Rapid Recap: 

  • Elyza Mitchell (Spofford, NH) and Makenna Grillone (Walpole, NH) both scored early layups to put the Chargers up 5-2. Tanner Drury (Bethel, VT), Emily Leonard (Chester, NH), and Grillone all made shots from three-point range. Lauren MacDonald (Tilton, NH) scored a jumper to put the Chargers up 16-6. Molly Denis (Plattsburgh, NY) drained a three. The Chargers led 19-16 after the first quarter. 

  • Drury and Grillone opened the Charger scoring in the second quarter as both made three-pointers. Drury scored another three. Mitchell, Leonard, and Catherine Chick (Glen, NH) all scored layups for the Chargers. The Chargers went into the halftime break ahead 37-33. 

  • Grillone led the strong start to the second half for the Chargers, by making two threes. MacDonald scored a jumper. A little more than a minute later, Grillone scored her third three of the quarter. MacDonald scored another bucket. Leonard and Taylor Fellows (Croydon, NH) both scored shots from beyond the arc to put the Chargers up 58-54 with one quarter of basketball remaining. 

  • Mitchell scored a layup and MacDonald scored a three to start things off for the Chargers in the fourth quarter. MacDonald made another three, as the Chargers trailed 68-66 with 5:23 remaining. Mitchell and Drury both made layups. Chick scored a three as the Chargers trailed by three with 3:09 to go. Mitchell added a layup to the tally for the Chargers. Elms won the game 83-77.  

Inside the Numbers: 

  • Grillone led the scoring for the Chargers with 17 points. 

  • Mitchell scored 15 points on Saturday and recorded nine rebounds. Mitchell has now scored 10+ points in five of the last six games. 

  • MacDonald ended the game on 13 points. 

  • Mary Turco led the scoring for the Blazers with 18 points. 

  • The Chargers shot 41.7% from three-point range. 

Up Next: 

The Chargers will stay at home for their next game on Wednesday when they face Rivier at 5:30pm.
