BALTIMORE, M.D. - The Colby-Sawyer women's volleyball team headed down to Maryland for a tournament hosted by Johns Hopkins University that would kick off on Friday evening for the Chargers as they would take on the Corsairs of UMASS Dartmouth.
Rapid Recap:
- The Corsairs would open up the first set by rattling off four straight points. The Chargers would make a little run of their own to bring the set even at 7 with a couple errors coming from the Corsairs and a pair of kills from First Year Addison Sasnett (Virginia Beach, V.A.). Olivia Seutter and Ashley Serverius helped the Corsairs take the lead in the first set, before the Chargers would 6 straights points to take a 14-13 lead. The Chargers would see three service aces from Junior Bree Bacon (Brookline, Mass.) to help charge into the lead. The Corsairs would go on a big run and take advantage to win set one 25-18 with Addison Pate pushing the pace.
- The Corsairs would jump out to a very early lead in set two behind Olivia Seutter and Allison Pate. A trio of Chargers between First Year Claire Rocky (Sherman, Conn.), Senior Brenna Piller (Simsbury, Conn.), and Brooke Tasker (Wolfeboro, N.H.) would help lead the charge for a comeback in the set. The Corsairs would just take advantage during the set and go on another long run. The Chargers would make another strong effort of coming back in the set by taking advantage of the Corsairs attacking errors, but the Corsairs would take set two 25-15.
- The Chargers and Corsairs would exchange points to kick off things in the third set with Sasnett and Piller leading the way for the Chargers. Halfway through the set the Corsairs would go on a stretch of points led by Ashley Serverius that would have three kills. The Chargers would go on a mini run themselves as Piller would get a couple kills, while Bacon would pick up two more aces. The Corsairs would capitalize to put together a string of points to finish the match with a score of 25-17.
Inside the Numbers:
- Bree Bacon would have another strong match for the Chargers, picking up 5 service aces bringing her season total to 10. Bacon would also get 20 assists while picking up 14 digs for the Chargers.
- Piller and Sasnett would lead the Chargers in kills, as both recorded 7 each. Piller would also add 2 block assists which would tie her for a team lead with Claire Rocky.
- Olivia Seutter would lead the Corsairs in kills as she finished with 15. Skye Peters would finish with 23 assists for the Corsairs.

The Chargers will have a quick turn around while facing some tough competition on Saturday, September 6th as they take on Hardin-Simmons University followed by the #4 team in the country and tournament hosts, Johns Hopkins.
