NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer women's volleyball team hosted their home opener Tuesday night against Fitchburg. They would take down the Falcons in straight sets to secure Head Coach Connor MacPhail's first collegiate head coach win.
Rapid Recap:
- The Falcons and Chargers would start the match exchanging blows with each other as the Chargers put together a string of kills to take an early lead. Bree Bacon (Brookline, Mass.) was setting up her teammates to get those string of kills for five of the first nine points for the Chargers. Addison Sasnett (Virginia Beach, VA) and Brenna Piller (Simsbury, Conn.) would be those hitters landing the sets from Bacon. Sasnett would record 6 kills in set 1, and Piller would have 3. The Chargers would jump out to a 14-8 lead and not look back, taking set one, 25-21.
- The Falcons and Chargers would exchange points again until midway through the set when the Chargers would rattle off ten straight. Bacon would have three service aces in that run, as the Falcons committed a couple attacking errors. Piller would have a couple service aces herself as Sasnett would finish the set with two kills.
- The Chargers would have complete control of the third set when they took over with another string of 7 straight points. Claire Rocky (Sherman, Conn.) and Madison Sinatro (Simsbury, Conn.) would help lead the charge at the mid point of the set to take a 20-8 lead. Kamryn Brakemeier (Fort Worth, Texas) would add some additional kills to bring home the first win of the season.
Inside the Numbers:
- The Chargers would hold a 32-20 kill lead while securing 11 service aces throughout the three sets. The team would also lead in assists and digs through the three sets to lead all major categories against the Falcons.
- Sasnett would lead the way for the Chargers as she totaled 14 kills. Bree Bacon would total 26 assists, while leading the team in service aces while picking up her 100th career ace.
- Brenna Piller would total 5 kills, 3 aces, and 10 digs herself to help push the pace. Brakemeier would finish with 5 kills as well as a block. Madison Sinatro would lead the team in digs with 15 while adding 3 service aces.
- The Falcons were led by Stephanie Sardella with 6 kills and 8 digs.

Addison Sasnett on the teams mindset heading into the season opener. "We weren't worried about the other side, we just wanted to play our game and protect our home court."
"I am so honored...ever since I got to Colby-Sawyer, I have felt so welcomed" said Head Coach Connor MacPhail after picking up his first collegiate head coaching win. "I am so proud of this group. They work hard and it shows. We put in the work during preseason and I believe it showed tonight."

The Chargers will look to take this momentum into their next match up on the road against UMASS Dartmouth for the John Hopkins Tournament where the Corsairs will be one of three matches. They will take on the Corsairs on September 5
th at 6PM.
