NEW LONDON, N.H. - The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced on Wednesday over 3,300+ student athletes in Division III to their scholar athlete list for the 2024-25 academic year. The Chargers had ten student athletes named to the list this year, a record high since head coach Barry Schonnmaker took over in 2009.
The ITA names student athletes every year that have a grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year. Three women's tennis Chargers met that requirement this past year as
Mary Thoms (Northwood, N.H.),
Payton Dugan (Vincennes, Ind.), and
Callie Valeri (New London, N.H.) were named scholar athletes.
This year, the men's tennis team saw seven athletes meet the requirements this year as
Leonardo Brezzi (Trieste, Italy),
David Dvorak (Prague, Czech Republic),
Oliver Van Hattum (Bunnik, Netherlands),
Zsombor Homonnay (Budapest, Hungary),
Markus Rankins (Latham, N.Y.),
Leonardo Russo (Barcelona, Spain), and
Tyler Sampson (Sudbury, Ontario) were named scholar athletes.
