CHARGERS SUFFER HEARTBREAKING LOSS TO CADETS

NEW LONDON, N.H. - The Colby-Sawyer women's lacrosse team were the host to Norwich University on Tuesday afternoon, who are sitting atop the conference and undefeated in conference play as the season starts to wind down.

Rapid Recap:
  • The Chargers would open up this game with an early goal on their first possession of the game thanks to a beautifully placed shot by First Year Lauren Vignola (Ringwood, N.J.) that snuck right past the Cadets goal keeper. The Cadets would respond just thirty seconds later as Caitlyn Fielder would score the teams first goal of the game. Both teams would go back and forth for about six minutes until the Cadets would score again on a Quinn Mustone goal. The Chargers would respond themselves four minutes later on a goal from Andrea Smith (Gray, Maine) off an assist from Heather Hanson (Barnstable, Mass.). The Cadets would score once more to go into the second quarter 3-2.
  • The Chargers mixed offense and defense in the second quarter as they stopped the Cadets drives, and produced six goals in the quarter. Vignola opened up the second quarter with her second goal of the game off another assist from Hanson. Cecilia Ponzini (Windham, N.H.) would help lead the Chargers, as she dissed out five assists in the quarter with her first two setting up Andrea Smith to score two straight goals. She would then find Hanson for a goal, before finding Rose Finlayson (Hopkinton, N.H.) who scored the Chargers next two goals. The Cadets would score a goal in-between Finlayson's goals, sending both teams to the locker room with the Chargers up 8-4.
  • The Cadets would score two in the third period between goals from Caitlyn Fielder and Ellie Moriarty ten minutes to make it 8-6 going into the fourth.
  • The Chargers would open up the fourth with another connection for a goal between Vignola and Hanson. The Cadets would storm back to score four unanswered goals and take a 10-9 lead late in the game.
