CHICOPEE, MASS. - The Colby-Sawyer women's lacrosse team traveled to Chicopee, Massachusetts after a quick delay pushed it from a Saturday contest to a Sunday contest where the Chargers would come out on top, 19-5.
Rapid Recap:
- The Chargers would kick off the scoring thanks to a super quick goal from First Year Lauren Vignola (Ringwood, N.J.) that came from the stick on Cecilia Ponzini (Windham, N.H.) for the assist. The Blazers would respond quickly themselves a minute later on a Greta Frankwicz goal from Jackie Cronin. The Chargers would take control from that point on, ending the first period with four unanswered goals. Two came from Senior Heather Hanson (Barnstable, Mass.), one came from Rose Finlayson (Hopkinton, N.H.) off an assist from Hanson, and the last would be scored by Soph Kuhlthau (Cheshire, Conn.).
- The Chargers would open the second quarter with two more quick goals at the hands of Heather Hanson, and Kuhlthau. Frankwicz would break up the Chargers run with her second goal of the game, before Madeline Knight (Pownal, Maine) would score off an assist from Molly Dishong (Francestown, N.H.). Cronin would score for the Blazers, before the Chargers would go on to score another four unanswered goals to end the first half. One came from Ponzini, from Kuhlthau. The next goal was an unassisted goal from Knight, followed by a Finlayson goal from Kuhlthau. Elena Bronson (Monkton, VT.) would score the last goal to send the game into halftime with a score of 12-3.
- Rose Finlayson would open the third quarter with her third goal of the game. Cronin would score for the Blazers again, followed by Madeline Knight securing her hat trick and Soph Kuhlthau sending it into the fourth with a 15-4 Chargers lead.
- Ali Sullivan would score the Blazers final goal, and the Chargers would pour on another four goals to end the game. Hanson would score her fourth and fifth goals of the game, and would assist another Finlayson goal. Lauren Vignola would score her second goal of the game helping the Chargers secure the 19-5 win.
Inside the Numbers:
- Heather Hanson would lead the way for the Chargers scoring five goals, and assisting on two other goals. Her first assist of the game made her the program leader in career assists. Rose Finlayson would score four goals, inching her closer to her 100th career point. Madeline Knight would secure her first hat trick of the season, helping score three for the Chargers. AJ Paton (Exeter, N.H.) would go on to record five saves, and get the win where she would also get her 400th career save during the game.
