CHARGERS EDGE OUT PRIDE IN FINAL HOME GAME OF REGULAR SEASON

NEW LONDON, N.H. - The Colby-Sawyer women's lacrosse team hosted the Pride of Regis College on Friday afternoon in a conference match up, as the Chargers look to lock in their playoff position. They would go on to edge out the Pride 10-8. 

Rapid Recap:
  • The Chargers would come out clicking as they would shut out the Pride in the first quarter while putting up five goals themselves to take an early 5-0 lead. Lauren Vignola (Ringwood, N.J.) would kick off the Chargers scoring off an assist from Cecilia Ponzini (Windham, N.H.). Ponzini would go on to find Heather Hanson (Barnstable, Mass.) to put the Chargers up 2-0. Elena Bronson (Monkton, Vt.) would score next thanks to a beautifully placed pass from Hanson. Hanson would score again after a caused turnover that she would take herself for the goal. Vignola would score again on another assist, this time from Bronson.
  • The Pride would strike back in the second quarter, cutting into the lead by dropping in two goals themselves. Molly Higgins would score first, followed by Serenity Ayala to make it a 5-2 game going into halftime. 
  • The Pride would cut into the lead again by opening the second half with a goal by Higgins to make it 5-3. Madeline Knight (Pownal, Maine) would extend the lead for the Chargers on another assist from Bronson. Regis would score the next two, making it a one goal game before Rose Finlayson (Hopkinton, N.H.) added some insurance with a goal to make it 7-5. Another Pride goal would send the game into the fourth, 7-6.
  • Finlayson would open the fourth quarter with another insurance goal off an assist from Knight. It would be followed by a Hanson goal that would put the Chargers back up by three. Ayala would score for the Pride, to make it 9-7 before Hanson would add another goal to make it 10-7. The Pride would score one more goal with twenty seconds left to end the game 10-8.
Inside the Numbers: 
  • Heather Hanson would lead the way for the Chargers as she would power in four more goals bringing her season total to 37 goals. Lauren Vignola and Rose Finlayson would both score two goals each. Elena Bronson and Madeline Knight would both score one to round out the scoring for the Chargers. Soph Kuhlthau (Cheshire, Conn.) and Hannah Himes (Williston, Vt.) would lead the team in caused turnovers with four each as the team sits second in the nation for caused turnovers. 
  • AJ Paton (Exeter, N.H.) would get the win in net making her 9-6 on the year, as she picked up 6 saves.

The Chargers will finish the regular season at New England College on April 23rd with a start time of 4:00PM.
