CHARGERS POWER PAST FALCONS AT HOME

NEW LONDON, N.H. - The Colby-Sawyer women's lacrosse team hosted Fitchburg St. on Wednesday afternoon at home where they would power past the Falcons by a score of 16-11.

Rapid Recap:
  • The Chargers would strike fast, with Soph Kuhlthau (Cheshire, Conn.) who would give us the first goal just twenty-two seconds into the game assisted by First Year Lauren Vignola (Ringwood, NJ). Andrea Smith (Gray, Maine) scored the Chargers second goal in the first minute before Kuhlthau would add another goal 20 seconds later. Kuthlthau would get the hat trick in two minutes and fourteen seconds, finding the net once more. Rose Finalyson (Hopkinton, N.H.) would continue the scoring, as she scored her first goal to make it 5-0. Vignola would score her first goal of the game just before twelve minutes to go in the quarter. The Falcons would finally find the back of the net on a goal by Samantha Azzari to get themselves on the board. Cecilia Ponzini (Windham, N.H.) dropped in the Chargers seventh goal in just the first quarter. Finlayson, Vignola, and Smith would all score again with Finlayson and Smith picking up hat tricks themselves. 
  • Andrea Smith would get the Chargers going in the second quarter as she scored her fourth goal, making it 13-1. Alexis Raymond would score for the Falcons, giving them their first goal of the second quarter. Finlayson would score again for the Chargers, marking her fourth goal of the game. The Falcons would give themselves two more goals, before Smith would find the net one more time for her fifth goal, and putting the Chargers up 15-4 going into halftime. 
  • Jeannine Preston, Breanna White, and Jessica St. George would all score for the Falcons to lead the way in the third quarter. Heather Hanson (Barnstable, Mass.) would score the Chargers lone goal in the quarter to give them 16 on the game. The Falcons would power in four more goals in the final quarter making their score 11.
Inside the Numbers: 
  • Andrea Smith led the charge with five goals, and three ground balls, while Rose Finlayson added four goals three ground balls herself. Soph Kuhlthau had her second straight hat trick while getting three contested turnovers, and two ground balls. 
  • AJ Paton (Exeter, N.H.) led the way in net while she picked up 7 saves as well as four ground balls.

The Chargers return to action for their first road game of the year and first conference game of the year as they head to New London, Conn to take Mitchell.
