New London, N.H. - The Colby-Sawyer women's lacrosse team fell at home to the Johnson and Wales Wildcats 16-10 on Saturday, The Chargers picked up their first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) loss of the season but remain 2-1 in conference action.

- The Chargers would score first as sophomore Andrea Smith (Gray, Maine) would send the ball into the back of the net to give the home team an early 1-0 lead. Just seconds later, the Wildcats responded with a goal of their own to tie the score at 1-1 with 11:07 remaining in the opening quarter. The Wildcats would net their second goal of the game a minute later to take the 2-1 lead. The teams continued to trade turnovers and ground balls throughout the quarter as Mila Kuilan scored a goal for the visitors to extend their lead to 3-1. Senior Heather Hanson (Barnstable, Mass.) responded a minute later with a goal of her own to cut the Wildcats lead. The Wildcats responded to Hanson's goal with a goal to take the 4-2 lead with 5:33 remaining. The teams would continue to battle as the Wildcats would find the back of the net in the final minute to take a 5-2 lead at the end of the first quarter.
- The Wildcats would open the quarter with two quick goals in the opening two minutes to take a commanding 7-2 lead over the Chargers. Senior Soph Kuhlthau (Cheshire, Conn.) would take advantange of a free position and pick up the Chargers third goal. First-year Lauren Vignola (Ringwood, N.J.) would respond just seconds later with a goal to trim the Wildcats lead to 7-4. The Chargers would continue to dominate on the attack as Hanson netted her second goal of the game as the Chargers trailed 7-5 with 5:30 remaining. The home team would continue to dominate and take advantage of Wildcat turnovers as sophomore Rose Finlayson (Hopkinton, N.H.) found the back of the net with 2:25 remaining in the second quarter to get the Chargers within one goal of the Wildcats. The Chargers defense dominated throughout the quarter as the Wildcats were held scoreless as the quarter came to a close.
- The Wildcats would open the third quarter with a goal from Madeleine Gould to extend their lead to 8-6 with 12:29 remaining. The teams would continue to battle and trade ground balls and turnovers, as Kuhlthau would score her second goal of the game to keep the Chargers within one goal of the Wildcats. The visitors responded a minute later with a goal from Gould to extend their lead to 9-7. The Wildcats would score their tenth goal of the game late in the quarter, but Kuhlthau responded a minute later with her third goal to keep the Chargers within two goals. The Wildcats would extend their lead to three goals as Kuilan scored in the final minute to five the visitors an 11-8 lead at the end of the third quarter.
- Gould would open the scoring in the final quarter of action for the Wildcats scoring her fifth goal of the game, but Kuhlthau responded a minute later with her fourth goal to trim the lead to 12-9 with 11:24 remaining. First-year Brooke Farquhar (Gorham, Maine) would dominate on defense and picked up a ground ball, leading to the Chargers tenth goal of the game as Vignola scored her second goal of the game with an assist from Finlayson. The Wildcats would stay on the attack late in the quarter scoring four goals in the final six minutes to take the 16-10 win on Saturday.
Inside the Numbers:
- Kuhlthau recorded four goals for the Chargers, while Hanson and Vignola added two apiece. Finlayson would chip in one goal and three assists for the Chargers.
- Junior Anika Jenkins (Tynsboro, Mass.) recorded five ground balls and two caused turnovers while Farquhar chipped in four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Junior Cecilia Ponzini (Windham, N.H.) tallied four ground balls and four caused turnovers for the Chargers.
- Senior AJ Paton (Exeter, N.H.) picked up the loss but registered five saves while allowing 16 goals.
