Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

CHARGERS STORM PAST SHARKS 12-6

BOSTON, MASS. - The Colby-Sawyer women's lacrosse team took a trip to Boston, early Saturday morning for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match up with Simmons University where the Chargers would overcome an early deficit to win 12-6.

Rapid Recap:
  • The Chargers would fall behind early as the Sharks would find themselves up 2-0 late in the first period. The Sharks would pick up the first goal of the game off a shot by Cerys Balmer halfway through the period. Frida Turriza scored a couple minutes later before the Chargers would get their first goal on an assist from Rose Finlayson (Hopkinton, NH) who found Soph Kuhlthau (Cheshire, Conn.). 
  • The Chargers would shut down the Sharks in the second period as they clawed their way back to tie the game, and then take control. The period was kicked off with Cecilia Ponzini (Windham, NH) scoring off an assist from Kuhlthau. Ponzini would knot the game at three finding the back of the net again off an unassisted goal. Heather Hanson would secure the lead for the Chargers as she powered in the fourth goal of the day. She would go on to find Finlayson to extend the lead and send the Chargers into halftime up 5-3.
  • The Chargers would go on to take control of this game coming into the second half. Kuhlthau would kick off the second half by scoring her second goal of the game to extend the Chargers lead. Finlayson would score an unassisted goal a minute before First Year Lauren Vignola (Ringwood, N.J.) would score the next two goals for the Chargers. Between Vignola's goals, the Sharks would score their fourth goal by Abby Mountain. 
  • Carrying an 8-4 lead going into the fourth period, the Chargers offense would not slow down. They would open up the period with two more goals by Vignola on assists by Finlayson and Hanson. Kuhlthau would score her third and final goal of the game to bring the Chargers to 12. The Sharks would power in two more goals to bring their total up to 6. 
Inside the Numbers: 
  • First Year, Lauren Vignola led the Chargers offense with four goals on eight shots. Soph Kuhlthau would get her fourth straight hat trick with two assists on top of her three goals. Rose Finlayson would add two goals, and two assists and Cecilia Ponzini would add two goals and an assist. Heather Hanson would dish out two assists while adding a goal. 
Postgame Press:
"We battled through a very physical game." Said Senior captain, Soph Kuhlthau. "We made sure to keep our heads up and stick to the game plan. Overall we worked for each other and with each other throughout the game."

The Chargers are heading down to Panama City Beach, Florida for their Spring Fling with their first game being against Framingham State on Monday at 5:00PM EST.
