MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Colby-Sawyer women's lacrosse team kicked off their season in a very snow full February as they hosted Clark Univeristy at SNHU this afternoon, where they would start off their season strong with a 14-4 victory.
Rapid Recap:
- The Chargers would concede a goal to the Cougars early, falling down 1-0. The team would go on to score 6 unanswered goals in the first period to take an early 6-1 lead. The goals in the period started off with Senior, Heather Hanson (Barnstable, Mass.) off an assist from Junior, Cecilia Ponzini (Windham, N.H.). Sophomore, Rose Finlayson (Hopkinton, N.H.) would go on to score the next two goals, with one assist from fellow Sophomore, Andrea Smith (Gray, Maine). Senior, Soph Kuhlthau (Cheshire, Conn.) would create her own space to find the back of the net. Smith would be the next to score on an assist from First Year, Lauren Vignola (Ringwood, N.J.) while Ponzini would score the last goal of the period.
- The Chargers would continue the attack in the second period as they opened up the period with Sophomore, Madeline Knight (Pownal, Maine) scoring two of the four goals in the period with both assists coming from Hanson. In between Knight's two goals, Heather would find herself securing her second goal of the game, creating space for herself to put in the goal. Kuhlthau would also find her second goal of the game to end the first half for the Chargers, with a 10-1 lead.
- The third period did not see a lot of scoring as both teams put in one goal each, with the Chargers seeing Hanson secure the hat trick putting in her third goal of the game. The Cougars had Erin Lucas give them their second goal of the game bringing us to the 4th with an 11-2 score.
- The Cougars would open the fourth with another Lucas goal as well as another goal by Sydney McMonagle before the Chargers would pile on three more goals. Vignola would pick up another assist on a Knight goal, giving Knight three goals. Ponzini would find Finlayson for another quick shot goal for Finlayson's third. Kuhlthau would create space and secure her third goal by bringing the Chargers up 14-4.
Inside the Numbers:
- The Chargers had four players with three goals. Heather Hanson would lead the way with 3 goals and 2 assists. Rose Finlayson would pick up 3 goals. Soph Kuhlthau would secure 3 goals, as would Madeline Knight.
- Senior goalkeeper, Aj Paton (Exeter, N.H.) would rack up 8 saves, securing her first win of the very young season.
- First Year Lauren Vignola would help lead the charge picking up two assists herself while Cecilia Ponzini would win 6 draw controls, and pick up three assists.
