CHARGERS TAKE DOWN EMMANUEL FOR FIRST TIME IN PROGRAM HISTORY

NEW LONDON, N.H. - The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team hosted GNAC opponent, Emmanuel Saturday afternoon where they were able to come out on top for the first time in program history dating back to 2018. 

Rapid Recap:
  • The Chargers came out firing as a trio of Chargers got the ball rolling. Chaz Cullum (Omaha, Neb.) took charge as he started off the game with a drive to the basket to kick off the scoring for the Chargers, as he would score 3 more quick points early on. First year, Brady Rogers continued to shine coming off the bench early and knocking down a three pointer before getting a steal on an inbound a couple possessions later for an easy layup. First year, Elijah Thomas (Fairfax, Virginia) would continue the hot start for the Chargers as he would know down an early three as well as some free throws.
  • Noah Beaudet would get the Saints out to a hot start as well as he would hit a couple early threes for Emmanuel as he scored 9 of the teams first 13 points. The game would continue to be close for half of the first half as the Chargers held the edge 20-17 early on. Cullum and Thomas would continue to lead the team for the rest of the half, finding ways to score, but Emmanuel Adarkwa (Lawrenceville, GA) would help poor it on for the Chargers knocking down two threes himself. The Chargers would find themselves up 38-32 to end the first half.
  • The Saints would come out in the second half opening on an 6-0 run to tie the game before the Chargers found a way to score. It was Bryson Jenkins (Gary, Ind.) who would get the Chargers going in the second half as he led the charge. He would knock down three threes and a pair of free throws to give the Chargers a 55-47 lead halfway through the second half. 
  • The Chargers would get up by as many as 13 before Mahari Guerrier would score 7 points for the Saints in the back end of the half to chip away and make it 74-70 with a minute to go in the game. The Saints would bring it within two before A.J. Mutiganzi (Burlington, Ontario) would take a charge in the paint that would secure the win for the Chargers as Cullum and Jenkins hit free throws to secure the win, 78-72.
Inside the Numbers:
  • Chaz Cullum would lead all scorers with 19 points (8-15 FG) with 10 rebounds and 5 assists, while playing every minute of the game. Bryson Jenkins would have 17 points (4-9 FG) while dissing out 4 assists. Brady Rogers would also find his way to double digits as he dropped 12 points (4-8 FG) and securing 4 steals. Elijah Thomas would be the last player in double figures dropping 10 points (3-4 FG) while grabbing 2 rebounds.
  • Emmanuel was led in scoring by Vondre Chase, who had 16 points (8-13 FG) in 31 minutes played. Mahari Guerrier would also drop in 13 points for the Saints in 35 minutes. 
  • The Chargers would go on to shoot 47.5% for the game, as well as picking up 17 fast break points, and the bench coming in and scoring 28 points. They also would beat the Saints on the boards as they secure 29 rebounds to the Saints 24. 
Post Game Press: 
"It felt good to get a win with this being one of the last times playing on the home floor." Said Chaz Cullum after the game. "For beating Emmaneul for the first time in history feels good. I'm just glad i'm apart of the team that did it."

The Chargers return to action for their last road game of the season as they will head to Regis College of Tuesday, Feburary 18th with tip off scheduled for 7:00PM.
