WOMEN'S BASKETBALL MATCHES UP WITH MIDDLEBURY IN SATURDAY CONTEST

Middlebury, VT – The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team played the Panthers of Middlebury College in a non-conference matchup in the Green Mountain State on Saturday afternoon. 

Rapid Recap: 

  • Lauren MacDonald (Tilton, NH) layup was the first basket of the game as the Chargers went ahead 2-0. Afterwards, MacDonald and Emma Greenan (Saint Johnsbury, VT) each made layups as the Chargers took an 8-4 lead. The Panthers took a 9-8 lead, but a Tanner Drury (Bethel, VT) layup gave the Chargers a one-point lead. After the first quarter, the Panthers would lead 17-10. 

  • Early in the second quarter, Makenna Grillone (Walpole, NH) drained a three and MacDonald made a layup to give the Chargers a 5-0 run. With under five minutes left in the half, Delaney Raymond (Lyndon, VT) and Catherine Chick (Glen, NH) scored layups as the Chargers would trail 30-19. With 1:34 left in the quarter, Greenan scored a jumper for the Chargers. Middlebury would lead 34-21 at the end of the first half. 

  • Chick made a free throw early in the third quarter. Calie Messina scored five points as the Panthers went on a 7-0 run. Chick then went 2-2 on a trip to the free throw line. With just under three minutes to go in the quarter, Chick scored her fourth free throw of the quarter. The Panthers would lead 51-25 going into the fourth quarter. 

  • Chick would add to her scoring total by making a layup in the first minute of the fourth quarter. The next four buckets from the Chargers would all be layups from Drury, making it eight points inside three minutes for Drury. Greenan scored two free throws for the Chargers in the last minute of the game. The Panthers went on to win the game 73-37. 

Inside the Numbers: 

  • Drury scored 10 points on Saturday, making it Drury's sixth 10+ point game this season. 

  • Chick scored a season-high 10 points and recorded five rebounds.  

  • Greenan ended the game with six points and five rebounds. 

  • Islay Moore led the scoring for the Panthers with 14 points. 

  • The Chargers scored 26 points in the paint.

The Chargers will continue their road stretch on Wednesday when they play Amherst College at 7pm.
