Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL CONTINUES ROAD TRIP AGAINST PLYMOUTH ST.

Plymouth, NH – The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team took on the Panthers of Plymouth State University in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday evening. 

Rapid Recap: 

  • A layup from Makenna Grillone (Walpole, NH), and three layups from Lauren MacDonald (Tilton, NH), set the Chargers up with an 8-4 lead in the first quarter. Later, MacDonald would make her fourth layup of the game. The Panthers would lead 12-10 after the first quarter. 

  • Tanner Drury (Bethel, VT) would drain a three early in the second quarter to cut the deficit to one point. Grillone and Catherine Chick (Glen, NH) would both score multiple baskets to help the Chargers to a 22-18 lead. Taylor Fellows (Croydon, NH) would score the last points of the half for the Chargers by making a three and a layup. The hosts would lead 35-27 at the half. 

  • The Chargers had a fast start to the second half, as MacDonald and Drury would both make layups, and Grillone would make a three. That would see the Chargers go on a 7-0 run and make it a one-point game. Drury would make two threes in the quarter, and Grillone would make another three. The Panthers would lead 53-48 with one quarter to go. 

  • The Panthers would start the fourth quarter going on a 10-0 run. But the Chargers would respond with an 8-0 run, including a Grillone layup, and two more threes from Drury. Drury and Fellows would both make baskets as the Chargers would trail 70-61 with 1:25 left in the game. Grillone would make another three with 29 seconds left. The Panthers would win 74-64. 

Inside the Numbers: 

  • Drury finished the day leading the Chargers in points (20) and going 5-8 from three-point range. 

  • Grillone scored a career-high 18 points, while going 3-4 from three-point range and 7-9 from the field. 

  • MacDonald ended the game with a double-double recording 13 points and 13 rebounds. 

  • Hailey Malozzi led the scoring for the Panthers by supplying 24 points. 

  • The Chargers shot 47.4% from three-point range. 

Up Next: 

The Chargers will travel to Vermont on Saturday to play the Panthers of Middlebury College at 2pm.
