FOUR STARTERS SCORE IN DOUBLE FIGURES IN WIN OVER FALCONS

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team improved to 3-2 on the season with a win against Fitchburg State University on Saturday. 

Rapid Recap: 

  • Elyza Mitchell (Spofford, N.H.) got the scoring started for the Chargers eight seconds into the game with a jump shot. Lauren MacDonald (Tilton, N.H.) and Makenna Grillone (Walpole, N.H.) both made threes as the Chargers led 11-4. The Chargers would finish the first quarter ahead 19-9. 

  • Taylor Fellows (Croydon, N.H.) and Grillone would both make threes as the Chargers led 31-18 with 5:34 left to play in the second quarter. Grillone and Emily Leonard (Chester, N.H.) would both make three-pointers as the Chargers would lead 39-29 at halftime. 

  • With 4:31 left in the third quarter, the Chargers would have a 47-42 lead. Leonard and Tanner Drury (Bethel, VT.) would both score multiple free throws to keep the Chargers in front. The third quarter ended with a 56-47 lead for Colby-Sawyer. 

  • Drury, Leonard, and Mitchell all scored in the first few minutes of the fourth quarter, as the Chargers led 63-54 with about seven minutes left in the game. Catherine Chick (Glen, N.H.) scored the next four points for the Chargers. The Chargers went on to win the game 73-61. 

Inside the Numbers: 

  • MacDonald finished the game with 15 points and 12 rebounds. 

  • Mitchell finished the game with 14 points and 14 rebounds. 

  • Drury finished the game with 10 points and four assists. 

  • Shanell Smith-Akpan led the scoring for the Falcons with 20 points. 

  • The Chargers scored 40 points in the paint. 

Up Next: 

The Chargers will travel to Waterville, Maine on Monday to play Thomas College of Maine at 6pm.
