CHARGERS SPLIT TRIMATCH WITH RIVIER AND UNIVERSITY OF SAINT JOSEPH’S (CONN.)

NASHUA, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer College women's volleyball team split results in their Tri-match Saturday falling to Rivier 1-3 (17-25, 17-25, 25-17, 18-25) and sweeping University of Saint Joseph's (Conn.) 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-15).  
Rapid Recap (Rivier): 
  • The Chargers began the first set with a kill by senior Katie Mollberg (Naples, Fla.), but the Raiders counteracted the Chargers momentum, extending their lead to 8-4. Colby-Sawyer continued to chip away at the Raider's lead with kills from senior Ally Majenski (Marshfield, Mass.) and first-year Kamryn Brakemeier (Fort Worth, Texas) as the Chargers trailed 12-8. First-year Madison Sinatro (Simsbury, Conn.) and Mollberg would provide back-to-back kills for the Chargers to keep the match close. The Raiders continued to extend their lead capitalizing on back-to-backs that would eventually conclude the first set, favoring the Raiders. 
  • The Raiders continued their momentum into the second set, jumping to a quick 7-3 lead over the Chargers, but kills by Majenski and Mollberg got the Chargers on the board, trailing 15-6. The Raiders continued to keep their foot on the gas, extending their lead to 22-16 before taking the second set, 25-17. 
  • The Chargers came out fighting in the third set, taking an early 7-4 lead with kills by sophomore Brenna Piller (Simsbury, Conn.) and Majenski. The Chargers extended their lead to 14-9 before the Raiders connected and came within three points of the Chargers, trailing 15-12. Kills by Brakemeier, Mollberg, and Sinatro would solidify a 25-17 set victory for the Chargers, forcing a fourth set. 
  • The Chargers jumped out to a quick 3-0 with a kill by Majenski, but the Raiders halted the visitor's momentum and to take ta 7-5 lead early in the fourth set. Key kills by Brakemeier kept the Chargers within one point, but the Raiders were able to finish off of service errors by the Chargers taking the fourth set 25-15, finalizing their victory over the Chargers.  
 
Inside the Numbers: 
  • Patnode led the way for the Chargers with 27 assists and chipped in 11 digs. 
  • Brakemeier added 9 kills for the Chargers while Majenski and Mollberg had 8 and 6 kills respectively. 
  • Fontes recorded 15 digs and one assist in the match. 
 
Rapid Recap (University of Saint Joseph's): 
  • The Blue Jays came out ready to fight against the Chargers in the first set taking an early 7-2 lead. The Chargers continued to chip away at the Blue Jays lead with back-to-back service aces by sophomore Alexis Mandrino (Dunbarton, N.H.) and kills by senior Ally Majenski (Marshfield, Mass.) gave the Chargers a 12-10 lead in the first set. First-year Kamryn Brakemeier (Fort Worth, Texas) would seal the first set victory for the Chargers with back-to-back kills.  
  • Kills by first-year Judy Mancilla (Purcellville, Va.) and Brakemeier gave the Chargers a quick 5-2 lead in the second set, before the Blue Jays counteracted with kills of their own to cut the lead within 2 points. Kills by senior Brooke Patnode (Weare, N.H.) and Majenski fueled the momentum for the Chargers to extend their lead to 14-9. Kills by first-year Brooke Tasker (Wolfeboro, N.H.), Brakemeier, and Mancilla lead the Chargers to a 25-21 second set victory.  
  • The Blue Jays came out hot in the third set, taking a commanding 10-5 lead over the Chargers, but kills by sophomore Brenna Piller (Simsbury, Conn.) and Tasker and a service ace by Patnode got the Chargers withing two of Blue Jays, trailing 11-9. The Chargers continued their momentum with kills by sophomore Haley Hathorn and senior Katie Mollberg (Naples, Fla.) to give the Chargers a convincing 17-12 lead. The Chargers continued this energy late in the third set and service aces by senior Audra Fontes (Fresno, Calif.) and kills by Piller and Brakemeier solidified the 25-15 third set victory for the Chargers. 
 
Inside the Numbers: 
  • Patnode led the way for the Chargers with 26 assists and 11 digs while Fontes chipped in 3 assists and 19 digs. 
  • Brakemeier chipped in 11 kills for the Chargers while Majenski and Tasker added 6 and 5.  
  • Fontes led the way for the Chargers with 3 services aces with Mandrino adding 2 aces. 
 
Up Next: 
The Chargers will return to action at home on Thursday as they take on the Buccaneers of Massachusetts Maritime Academy with a 7:00 PM start.
