Chargers Win Streak Stopped by Lasell

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Colby-Sawyer baseball team dropped their first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) game of the season on Monday falling to Lasell by a 16-6 final in eight innings.

  • The Chargers jumped ahead by a 2-0 score in the second inning as sophomore Devin Montalvo (Coram, N.Y.) hit a base knock to right field to score first year Sean Roeger (Salem, N.H.) and sophomore Nick Johnson (Manchester, N.J.). The Lasers countered in the bottom half of the inning getting three runs on an RBI single and a two RBI triple by Jared Whitby. Colby-Sawyer knotted the game up once again in the fourth inning as sophomore Janai Cruz (Manchester, N.H.) plated Roeger on a base hit to right field. 
  • Lasell responded again in the bottom of the fourth getting three more runs on a two RBI single by Christopher Bulk, before a two-out double by CJ Mills brought home the sixth run. In the sixth inning Cruz brought in another run on a clutch single to score Montalvo. The Lasers added two more insurance runs in the sixth on a two RBI double by Brad Edwards. 
  • Colby-Sawyer countered to bring the game within two runs in the seventh inning as first year Evan Dennis (East Ryegate, Vt.) singled home sophomore Dylan Watson (Byfield, Mass.) followed by a RBI single by Roeger to plate sophomore Cam Carignan (Rutland, Mass.). Lasell finally put the Chargers away in the bottom half of the frame with eight runs over the seventh and eighth inning to pull away for the 16-6 win. 
On the Mound:
  • Sophomore Will Carpenter (Medfield, Mass.) got the loss tossing four innings allowing six runs with two strikeouts. Sophomore Justin Powers (Peabody, Mass.) was next getting four outs while allowing two runs with one punch out. Junior Josh Finkle (Littleton, N.H.) got the next two outs including a strikeout. Junior Kam Lovelette (Enosburg Falls, Vt.) got the next three outs allowing four runs, while sophomore Anthony De Tone (Weare, N.H.), first year Eli Calhoun (Swanton, Vt.) and first year Hayden Goerlich (Amherst, N.H.) combined to get the final three outs. 
At the Plate:
  • Roeger led the offense with a 3-for-3 game at the dish with two runs scored a walk and a RBI. Watson went 3-for-4 at the plate with a run scored and a walk. Montalvo went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a walk. Cruz added a 2-for-4 day with a pair of ribbys.

The Chargers will take on Norwich in Northfield on Saturday.
