Chargers Flown Past by University of Saint Joseph (Conn.)

NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer baseball team fell in a tough contest on Friday losing to the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) by a 18-1 final. 

Rapid Recap
  • The Chargers took an early 1-0 lead as sophomore Dylan Watson (Byfield, Mass.) singled, stole second and then eventually stole home. The Blue Jays added a single run in the top half of the second on a sacrifice fly to even the score. 
  • The Blue Jays added three more runs in the top half of the third inning on two hits before getting two more runs in the fourth. 
  • The game blew open in the sixth inning as the Blue Jays pushed the lead to 9-1 before eventually getting nine runs in the top of the seventh to cruise to a 18-1 win. 
On the Mound:
  • First year Colin Burchard (Upton, Mass.) started the game allowing five earned runs in 3.1 innings with two strikeouts. Sophomore Justin Powers (Peabody, Mass.) added 2.2 innings allowing three runs with two punch outs. Junior Kenneth Spratt (Wantagh, N.Y.) ended the game with an inning of work allowing a single run. 
At the Plate:
  • The Chargers only mustered three hits in the game. Watson led the offense going 1-for-3 with a run scored. First year Evan Dennis (East Ryegate, Vt.) and first year Sean Roeger (Salem, N.H.) each added the other hits.
Up Next:
The Chargers will host Rivier tomorrow with a 12:00 PM start for a senior day doubleheader.
