NEW LONDON, N.H. — Colby-Sawyer College's Baseball faced off and split the double header against Great Northeast Athletic Conference opponent Albertus Magnus College. The first game being the conference game of the day falling in favor of the Chargers.
Rapid Recap Game One (Win 16-8):
- The Chargers got on the board when sophomore Cam Carignan (Rutland, Mass.) doubled in sophomore Dylan Watson (Byfield, Mass). Sophomore Nick Johnson (Manchester, N.J.) singled to left field, bringing home Carignan.
- The Falcons would quickly tie the game in the bottom of the first with a two run homer by Elijah Spataj.
- The Chargers answered back quickly in the top of the second. Sophomore Devin Montalvo (Coram, N.Y.) singled to left center field, followed first year Noah Staffier (Beverly, Mass.) getting hit by a pitch. Sophomore Jared Schmitt (Surry, N.H) would reach on an error by the catch, which would bring in Montalvo. Watson would hit his second double of the game bringing home Staffier. Graduate student Cooper O'Brien (Vergennes, Vt.) came up with bases loaded and singled to left center scoring Schmitt. First year Evan Dennis (East Ryegate, Vt.) got hit by a pitch, followed by a double by first year Sean Roeger (Salem, N.H.), extending the lead for the Chargers to six runs. Staffier would get another chance to bat in the inning singling to shortstop bringing home Dennis with the seventh run of the inning, giving the Chargers a 9-2 lead going into the bottom of the second.
- The Falcons would get one back in the bottom of the second with a single down the left field line, cutting the Charger's lead to six.
- O'Brien would continue the scoring for the Chargers in the top of the third with his own two run homer scoring Watson.
- The Falcons would hit their second home run of the day in the bottom of the third and score another run on a single to cut the lead once again to six, going to the fourth with a Charger's 11-5 lead.
- The Falcons would get 3 more runs in the bottom of the fifth, on two singles and a double, the lead for the Chargers now just three runs.
- Schmitt would fly out to left field, in the top of the sixth, scoring Dennis, gaining a run back.
- The pitchers for both teams would finally hold each other off until the top of the ninth were the Chargers would strike again. Sophomore Finn MacLennan (Ipswich, Mass.) would enter the game, and single to left field earing two RBIs scoring both Watson and Carignan. Roeger would then also single to left field scoring O'Brien, and with one more single, Montalvo would hit to shortstop, scoring sophomore Janai Cruz (Manchester, N.H.), giving the Chargers a 16-8 lead.
On the Mound:
- Sophomore Will Carpenter (Medfield, Mass.) got the start for the Chargers, throwing four and two thirds of an inning of work, while allowing eight runs on nine hits, striking out five, hitting three, and walking two. Junior Josh Finkle (Littleton, N.H.) came in to get the final out of the fifth, allowing one hit and striking out one, and picking up his first win of the season. Sophomore Marshall Donahue (Montpelier, Vt.) earned the save for the Chargers throwing four innings, allowing two hits while striking out four.
At the Plate:
- Watson led the offense for the Chargers going 3-for-5 with two doubles on three hits. O'Brien went 2-for-6 while tallying three RBIs and another homerun on the season. Roeger went 3-for-5 while also earning three RBIs.
Rapid Recap Game Two (Loss 7-12):
- The two teams would not score in the first inning unlike last game. The Falcons would open the scoring in the bottom of the second, earning a 3-0 lead on two singles and a fly-out to right field.
- In the top of the third, O'Brien would score sophomore Mike Krouse (Peabody, Mass.) on a sacrifice fly to center field. Sophomore Mike McLeer (Saco, Maine) singled up the middle scoring Watson, closing the lead for the Falcons to just one.
- The Falcons would not allow that as the next three runs would go to them, bringing them to a 6-2 lead.
- The Chargers would fight back to a tie in the top of the fifth. MacLennan singled throuh the left side, scoring Carignan and advancing to second on an error by the left fielder. MacLennan then would score on a wild pitch. Cruz would walk and then steal second and advanced to third on a single by first year Jesse Chaves (Taunton, Mass.). Cruz stole home on a double steal by him and Chaves. Senior Jack Matarese (Ashland, Mass.) singled through the left side to score Chaves, and chased the pitcher of The Falcons, tying the game 6-6.
- The Falcons would take the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning with King Rivera scoring on a wild pitch. A single, error, and another single would get the Chargers into a six-run hole.
- Sophomore Hunter Morse (Sunapee, N.H.) would single through the left side scoring sophomore Richie Marchand (Plymouth, Mass.) in hopes that the bats would continue to get them back in the game. It was, however, not enough.
On the Mound:
- Junior Kenneth Spratt (Wantagh, N.Y.) started the game for the Chargers, throwing two innings of work, allowing three runs on four hits and walking two. Junior Erik Rohs (Lovettesville, Va.) came in next throwing one and two thrids of an inning, allowing three runs (two earned), one hit, tallying two strikeouts, a hit batter, and one walk. Junor Kam Lovelette (Enosburg Falls, Vt.) was the next out of the bullpen, allowing no runs or hits in one and one thirds of an inning, striking out two and walking two. Junior Connor Donahue (Uxbridge, Mass.) picked up the lost for the Chargers, allowing three runs (none earned) on two hits, walking two and striking out one. First year Vinny Digiacomo (Marstons Mills, Mass.) was the last out of the bullpen for the Chargers, letting up three runs (none earned) on no hits, while walking three.
At the Plate:
MacLennan went 3-for-3, tallying one RBI, double, and walking once. Carignan went 2-for-4 with two singles and scoring a run. Cruz went 0-for-2, but stole two bases including home. Chaves went 2-for-3 hitting two singles, earning a run and stealing two bases.

The Chargers will travel to Lyndonville, Vt. to take on a double header against Northern Vermont Lyndon on Monday.
