Playoff Preview: Chargers Looking to Upset Rivier on Monday Night

NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team is ready for Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) playoff action on Monday as the Chargers look to upset Rivier on Monday with a 7:00 PM start. 
 
No. 9 Colby-Sawyer Chargers (9-16, 5-9 GNAC)
No. 8 Rivier University (14-11, 6-8 GNAC)
 
Game Headlines:
Colby-Sawyer is looking for revenge as the Raiders bested the Chargers back on February 7th by a 80-77 final in overtime in New London. The Chargers are looking to pickup their first postseason win since February 23rd, 2018 when the Chargers defeated Husson University in the NAC Semifinals by a 89-76 final. 
 
Colby-Sawyer Headlines:
  • The Chargers earned a 9-16 record for the 2023-24 season with a 5-9 conference record. Head coach Dan Kaigler's team has been clutch this year going 4-1 in one possession games this year including three GNAC wins by a margin of two points or less. 
  • Colby-Sawyer is led by junior Chaz Cullum (Omaha, Neb.) who averages 14.2 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.0 assists and a GNAC leading 2.8 steals per game. Junior Cha'Mar Martin (Columbia, S.C.) follows registering 12.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.1 steals per game.
  • Graduate student Bryson Jenkins (Gary, Ind.) will be a key boost for the Chargers averaging 8.3 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. 
  • The Chargers may be missing key pieces in the game as junior Bullen Taban (Phoenix, Ariz.) and junior Nick Grant (Houston, Texas) have each missed the last two games. 
Rivier Headlines:
  • The Raiders out-performed their expectations in 2023-24 going 14-11 overall with a 6-8 GNAC record. The best win of the season for Rivier came on September 2nd as the Raiders defeated Emmanuel by a 71-62 final in Nashua. 
  • Devin Owens leads the Raiders 1-2 punch averaging 17.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.6 steals per game, while Odarius Cade is another Raider to watch averaging 16.0 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 2.4 steals per game. 
  • Also be on the lookout for shooter Nikolas Pignone who netted seven threes for the Raiders in the win over Colby-Sawyer on February 7th. 
All-Time vs Rivier 
  • The Chargers own a 16-11 record over Rivier all-time and has won three of the last four games against the Raiders.
