Box Score Brooklyn, N.Y. - The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team got back in the win column Sunday afternoon as they took on tournament host, Medgar Evers in a consolation game. The Chargers would finish on top picking up their second win of the season.
Rapid Recap:
- The game opened up with both sides trading baskets with 5 lead changes within the first couple minutes. The Chargers were on a mission, trying to find a groove and get themselves back in the win column to kick off the new year. Bryson Jenkins (Gary, Ind.) hit a pair of threes to give the Chargers a little bit of breathing room early on, jumping to a 17-11 lead halfway through the first half. The Cougars would go on a small run themselves led by Daniel McCollum who strung together four points, and a three pointer by Ryan Panagakos gave the Cougars the lead.Â
- Sean Peterson (Chester, N.H.) would go on to score 9 of the Chargers next 12 points to make it 29-23. Sadiq Abdullahi (Homestead, Fla.) would help him out scoring 4 points near the end of the half to send the Chargers into halftime up 31-29.Â
- The second half saw the Chargers slowly start to pull away, as they took over the game. The team multiple different scorers help lead the charge to help start building a comfortable lead. Mike Joanou (Burbank, Cali.) and Cha'Mar Martin (Columbia, S.C.) would find their grooves and would add to their point totals in the back end of the second half. This would grow the Chargers lead to as many as 19 before the final buzzer sounded with the Chargers coming out on top 68-49.
Inside the Numbers:Â
- Sean Peterson would lead the way securing a double-double with 13 points (5-12 FG, 3-4Â FT) and grabbing 14 rebounds (7 offensive, 7 defensive) in 19 minutes of action.
- Cha'mar Martin also dropped 13 points (4-6 FG) in the game to help power the Chargers to victory as well as grabbing 7 rebounds himself in 27 minutes of action.Â
- Bryson Jenkins was the last Charger in double digit scoring as he would finish with 12 points (4-13 FG) with Chaz Cullum (Omaha, Neb.) getting his teammates involved with 8 assists.
- The Cougars were led by Ryan Panagakos and Daniel McCollum who had 10 points apiece in 24 and 23 minutes played respectively.Â
The Chargers will have a short period of rest before heading down the highway to Hanover for an exhibition match up against Dartmouth College on New Years Day that won't count towards their record.
