SALEM, MASS. – The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team fell to Salem State on the road Saturday afternoon 89-64.
Rapid Recap:
- The Vikings jumped out to a 10-2 lead over the Chargers in the first three minutes of the game with a layup by graduate student Bryson Jenkins (Gary, Ind.) to get the Chargers on the board. Senior Matthew Einarson (Danville, N.H.) would make a jump shot and then Jenkins would drain a three pointer to cut the Vikings lead to four points early in the first half. Jenkins would make a three pointer just minutes later to tie the game at 12-12. The Chargers and Vikings would trade points back and forth late in the first half before the Vikings would pull away and go on a 15-2 in the final five minutes of the first half taking as they took a 45-27 lead at the half.
- The Vikings would get on the board first in the second half with a made layup and jump to an early 47-27 lead over the Chargers. Graduate student Emmanuel Adarkwa (Lawrenceville, GA.) would chip in a quick three pointer, but the Vikings would respond just seconds later with a three pointer of their own to extend their lead to 53-32 with 18:00 minutes left of action. First-year Elijah Thomas (Fairfax, Virginia) added back-to-back buckets to try and get the Chargers back into the game, but the Vikings continued to control the game leading by 20 points with 16 minutes left of play. The Vikings continued to control the game with taking a commanding 30-point lead over the Chargers with 11 minutes of regulation left to play. Thomas would chip in a quick four points to cut the Vikings lead, but the Chargers would not get within 25 points as Vikings would pick up the win over the visitors.
Inside the Numbers:
- Jenkins led the way for the Chargers with 16 points (7-15 FG, 2-6 FT), three rebounds, and two assists. Thomas tallied 15 points (4-11FG, 7-8 FT), six rebounds, and two steals. Einarson added eight points (4-9 FG) and four rebounds. First-year Kayden Hoskins (Littleton, N.H.) chipped in six points (2-3 FG) and a rebound for the Chargers.
- Tyrese Rho paced the way for the Vikings with 29 points (10-15 FG, 2-4 3 PT, 7-12 FT), six rebounds, and six assists while Omri Merryman added 26 points (9-12 FG, 6-8 3 PT, 2-2 FT), five steals, and four rebounds.
- The Chargers allowed the Vikings to shoot 47.8% (33-69) from the floor and 41.4% (12-29) from behind the arc, while only shooting 34.8% from the floor (23-66) and 35.3% (6-17) from three. The Chargers held a 50-38 rebounding advantage over the Vikings
