CHARGERS SPLIT TRIMATCH WITH PRIDE AND FALCONS

NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer College women's volleyball team split their matches Saturday afternoon with a 3-1 loss to the Regis Pride (25-23, 13-25, 21-25, 10-25) and a 3-1 win over Albertus Magnus Falcons (25-16, 19-25, 25-9, 25-21).

Rapid Recap (Match 1): 
  • The Chargers took a quick 5-2 lead over the Pride Saturday afternoon with kills by senior Katie Mollberg (Naples, Fla.) and first-year Kamryn Brakemeier (Fort Worth, Texas). The Pride capitalized on Chargers errors and took an 8-7 lead. The Chargers continued to battle as sophomore Brenna Piller (Simsbury, Conn.) had back-to-back kills and senior Audra Fontes (Fresno, Calif.) had back-to-back service aces to give the Chargers a 17-13 lead over the Pride. Kills by sophomores Bree Bacon (Brookline, Mass.) and Haley Hathorn (Hillsboro, N.H.) extended the Chargers lead to 22-15 in the first set. A kill by senior Ally Majenski (Marshfield, Mass.) would get the Chargers within one point of a first-set victory, but the Pride continued to battle. The Pride went on a 7-0 run and trailed the Chargers 24-23, but Majenski put the ball away with a kill to give the Chargers a 25-23 first-set victory. 
  • The Pride jumped out to an early 3-1 lead over the Chargers in the second set. Kills by Mollberg and Piller would cut the Pride's lead and tie the set at 4-4. The Pride had back-to-back kills and service aces to extend their lead to 10-4 over the Chargers and continued to extend their lead. The Chargers continued to fight with kills by Piller and Majenski as the Chargers trailed 17-7 in the second set. Brakemeier chipped in three kills for the Chargers, as they trailed the Pride 24-13. The Pride would put away a kill of their own and take the second set victory 25-13. 
  • The Chargers and Pride traded points early in the third set as first-year Leah Barlow (Bourne, Mass.) and Mollberg chipped in a kill each as the Pride led the Chargers 9-5. The Chargers would take advantage of attacking errors by the Pride and take a 13-10 lead. Kills by Brakemeier and Mollberg would extend the Chargers lead to 16-13, but the Pride continued to fight. The Pride answered with kills of their own and took a 21-20 lead over the Chargers. Majenski would chip in a kill to tie the set at 21-21, but the Pride would take the set victory 25-21 and lead the Chargers 2-1 in sets. 
  • The Pride came out dominating on the attack with three service aces to take a 6-1 lead over the Chargers. Back-to-back attacking errors by the Pride would get the Chargers on the board as they trailed 10-4. The Pride went on the attack late in the fourth set and took a commanding 20-6 lead over the Chargers, but a kill by Majenski would get the Chargers back on the board and halt the Pride's attack. The Pride continued to extend their lead in the fourth set and would take a convincing 25-10 fourth set victory over the Chargers and win the match 3-1. 


Inside the Numbers: 
  • Patnode led the way for the Chargers with 31 assists and 10 digs.
  • Brakemeier chipped in 10 kills and six digs while Mollberg added eight kills and four digs.
  • Fontes recorded 18 digs and two aces
 
Rapid Recap (Match 2): 
  • Senior Brooke Patnode (Weare, N.H.) gave the Chargers an early 3-1 lead over the Falcons with a service ace. Kills by first-year Kamryn Brakemeier (Fort Worth, Texas) and senior Katie Mollberg (Naples, Fla.) would extend the Chargers lead to 11-9. The Falcons continued to battle with a service ace and kill to tie the match at 12-12. Kills by first-year Brooke Tasker (Wolfeboro, N.H.) and Mollberg would extend the Chargers' lead to 17-12. The Chargers continued to stay on the attack with back-to-back kills by Patnode and a service ace by sophomore Brenna Piller (Simsbury, Conn.) to give the Chargers a commanding 23-15 lead over the Falcon. A kill by senior Ally Majenski (Marshfield, Mass.) would solidify the first set victory for the Chargers 25-16. 
  • The Falcons continued to fight taking an early 5-3 lead over the Chargers. The Chargers would get on the board and capitalize on Falcon errors to tie the set at 5-5. Kills by Brakemeier, Piller, and Patnode would tie the set at 7-7. The Falcons would then go on a 4-0 run, taking advantage of several Charger errors. Brakemeier would get a kill of her own to break the Falcons 4-0 run, but attack errors by the Chargers gave the Falcons a 14-8 lead. First-year Leah Barlow (Bourne, Mass.) and Mollberg would chip in kills of their own to cut the Falcons lead, as the Chargers trailed 16-12. Back-to-back service aces by Mollberg would get the Chargers within four points, trailing the Falcons 20-16. The Falcons continued to attack and put back-back kills away, as extending their lead to 23-16. Kills by Brakemeier would keep the Chargers on the attack, but the Falcons would come away with the second set win 25-19.
  • The Chargers contined to battle in the third set, taking a commanding 10-2 lead over the Falcons with Mollberg chipping in three kills of her own. Kills by Brakemeier and Piller would extend the Chargers lead to 14-4 over the Falcons and the Chargers never let off of the gas. Majenski and Barlow would chip in a kill apiece and back-to-back service aces by Patnode gave the Chargers a commanding 20-6 lead. Mollberg would extened the Chargers lead to 23-8 with a kill before Brakemeier would give the Chargers a set victory with kill as the Chargers won 25-9. 
  • The Falcons continued to battle with the Chargers and took an early 3-1 lead. Attacking errors by the Falcons would get the Chargers on the board, giving the Chargers an 5-3 lead. The Falcons continued to fight back with kills of their own to take the lead over the Chargers 8-5, but the Chargers continued to fight. Back-to-back kills by Brakemeier and Piller would give the Charger the 10-9 lead. The Falcons and Chargers would trade points back and forth in the fourth set before kills by Patnode and Barlow would keep the Chargers ahead 16-15. A service ace by senior Audra Fontes (Fresno, Calif.) and kill by Piller extended the Chargers lead 19-15. The Chargers continued to stay on the attack late in the fourth set with Fontes adding another service ace and Brakemeier adding two kills as the Chargers led the Falcons 23-20. Mollberg would give the Chargers the 25-21 fourth set victory and 3-1 win overall with a kill. 
Inside the Numbers: 
  • Patnode led the way for the Chargers with 37 assists and 10 digs.
  • Brakemeier chipped in 15 kills and five digs while Piller added seven kills and 10 digs. 
  • Mollberg recorded 17 kills, five digs, and two aces.
  • Fontes added 27 digs and four aces in the Chargers victory,

The Chargers return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Plymouth, New Hampshire to take on the Panthers of Plymouth State in a non-conference match with a 4:00 PM start.
