PATNODE REACHES 2,000 CAREER ASSISTS IN CHARGERS 3-1 WIN

NEW LONDON, N.H. - The Colby-Sawyer women's volleyball team hosted the Dean College Bulldogs Friday night to kick off the schools homecoming and alumni weekend as they came up victroious by s score of 3 sets to 1. (23-25, 25-14, 25-15, 25-21).

Rapid Recap:
  • The first set opened up on a short run by the Chargers to open up to a 5-1 lead before the Bulldogs stormed back and tied it before the game became a very back and forth game with both teams tallying a string of points before the other would do the same. After a couple mistakes near the end of the set, the Bulldogs took advantage and string a couple points together to pull ahead and take the first set 25-23.
  • The Chargers would come back in set two with revenge on the mind as they were dominant in this set opening with a 6-4 lead. The Chargers would go on to score 12 straight points to take a commanding 18-4 lead coming off multiple service aces from Sophomore, Bree Bacon (Brookline, Mass.) and a couple of kills from Freshman, Kamryn Brakemeier (Fort Worth, Texas). The Chargers would take the set 25-14.
  • The team would take that momentum into the third set as they opened that set with another big lead being up 12-5 halfway through the set. Brakemeier would set the tone slamming ball after ball into the ground to help widen the gap for the Chargers. Brooke Patnode (Weare, N.H.) was everywhere on the court picking up assist after assist for the Chargers. The Bulldogs were getting hitting error after hitting error while the Chargers capitalized on every mistake, taking set three, 25-15.
  • The fourth set would become more competitive as the Bulldogs tried to force a fifth set. The Chargers would open up with another lead, seeing a favorable 12-7 lead halfway through the set, but Dean would string together some points to make it 12-11. Both teams would go back and forth as the Chargers held the lead for most of the set. A couple of errors of the Bulldogs, and kills by the Chargers, Ally Majenski (Marshfield, Mass.) and Brenna Piller (Simsbury, Conn.) would hand the Chargers a 25-21 match point.
Inside the Numbers:
  • Patnode would pick up a season best 45 assists while also recording her 2,000th career assist in the third set of this match!
  • Kamryn Brakemeier led the teams in kills totaling 15 and recorded 3 blocks as well for the Chargers.
  • Brenna Piller would be right behind Brakemeier totaling 14 kills herself. 
  • Bree Bacon, the team leader in service aces, and currently ranked 11th in the nation for DIII got five service aces to add to her total

The Chargers will return to action next Wednesday as they host Norwich for another in conference match-up with a 6PM start.
