Chargers Upended by Amherst College

NEW LONDON, N.H.  – The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball dropped its final non-conference game of the season tonight falling by a 73-29 margin to Amherst College. 

Rapid Recap:
  • The Mammoths kicked off the game on fire from the field jumping ahead 25-0. First year Catherine Chick (Glen, N.H.) stopped the run with an and-one finish, but the visitors closed the quarter with a commanding 31-2 lead. 
  • Chick added two free throws, while sophomore Makenna Grillone (Walpole, N.H.) tabbed a free throw, three and a layup as the Chargers cut the lead to 38-10 with 2:02 to play in the first half. First year Delaney Raymond (Lyndon, Vt.) netted her first collegiate point on a free throw, while senior Grace Lister (Orford, N.H.) added another shot from the charity stripe as the Chargers trailed by a 41-12 margin at half. 
  • The Mammoths jumped the lead to 47-12 to kick off the third quarter, while sophomore Elyza Mitchell (Spofford, N.H.) and Grillone tried to keep the Chargers offense going with free throws. The lead ballooned to 42 before a jumper by Chick ended the third quarter 
  • Four more free throws from the home team kicked off the fourth quarter as the Chargers trailed by a 61-21 margin. First year Emma Felker (Dracut, Mass.) banked home a three to bring the bench to its feet but the Mammoths office continued to click leading by 44 points to go with 3:41 to play. Raymond drilled a three of her own, while junior Natalie Panagrosso (Wallingford, Conn.) closed the scoring with a paint finish. 

Inside the Numbers:
  • Grillone led the Chargers offense with a career-high 10 points (2-2 FG, 1-1 3PT, 5-6 FT) and four rebounds. Chick tallied eight points (2-6 FG, 0-1 3PT, 4-5 FT) and six rebounds, while Raymond added a career-mark with four points (1-2 FG, 1-1 3PT, 1-2 FT), five rebounds and a steal. 
  • Kori Barach registered 12 points (5-8 FG, 2-3 3PT), seven boards, six assists and two steals. Sylvia Liddle added 12 points (6-7 FG), four rebounds and three steals. 
Up Next: 
Colby-Sawyer will travel to Newton, Mass. to take on Lasell on Thursday with a 5:30 PM start.
