NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team fell on Wednesday night to Norwich University by a 100-60 final to fall to 3-4 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC).
Rapid Recap:
- The Chargers started the game with four-straight turnovers as the Cadets quickly jumped ahead by a 8-0 score. Junior Chaz Cullum (Omaha, Neb.) finished a layup to try and stop the run, but Norwich would continue its early onslaught jumping the lead to 18-2 over the first six minutes. Junior Bullen Taban (Phoenix, Ariz.) finished a layup to cut the deficit to 14 points, but the Cadets couldn't miss early extending the lead to 30-8. Junior Mike Joanou (Burbank, Calif.) knocked down a jumper to try and spark Charger offense, but the Cadets continued to pour in jumpers holding a 31 point lead with 4:23 to play in the first half. Junior Jaisan Parker (Durham, N.C.) answered the run with 12-straight Charger points to cut the deficit to 53-30 headed into the second half.
- Taban kicked off the second half with a bucket, but the home team used a 13-4 run to push the lead back to 30 points. A steal and dunk by Cullum tried to get the Chargers back into the contest, but the Cadet offense was too tough once more going on another 10-2 run. First year Sean Peterson (Chester, N.H.) scored seven-consecutive points for the Chargers, but the Cadets continued to answer as the home team cruised to a 100-60 win.
Inside the Numbers:
- Cullum continued his stellar play as of late with 16 points (5-12 FG, 0-1 3PT, 6-6 FT) to go with seven rebounds and four steals. Parker notched a new career-high with 18 points (8-16 FG, 1-2 3PT, 1-1 FT) to go with two rebounds, while Joanou added six points (3-7 FG, 0-1 3PT), five rebounds, a block and a steal.
- Owen Liss led the Cadets with 25 points (11-13 FG, 2-3 3PT, 1-2 FT), eight rebounds, three steals and two blocks. Jalen Olivero added 21 points (8-16 FG, 3-6 3PT, 2-2 FT), five rebounds and two steals.
- The Cadets couldn't miss shooting 54.3% (38-70) from the field and 41.4% from behind the arc (12-29), while the Chargers shot 33.8% (25-74) from the floor and 14.3% from three (2-14). Norwich also used a 48-36 rebounding advantage and a 46-32 points in the paint margin to help with the win.
