NEW LONDON, N.H. - The Colby-Sawyer women's volleyball team came up short Thursday night falling to the University of Southern Maine by a 3-0 (30-28, 25-18, 25-23).
Rapid Recap:
- The Chargers jumped to a quick 4-1 lead in the first set behind a kill from junior Katie Mollberg (Napes, Fla.) The Huskies were quick to respond with a seven-point run of their own behind kills from Drew Johnson and Darrien Pugsley. The teams would continue to exchange points with a pair kills from first year Delaney Skourtis (Tilton, N.H.), a kill from Johnson, and service ace from Amelia Beatty. Junior Ally Majenski (Marshfield, Mass.) would add a kill and block late in the set to keep the Chargers hopes alive, but the Chargers were met with a service ace to seal the end of the first set to fall 30-28.
- The Huskies set the pace in the second set, earning the first three points off errors from the Chargers. Senior Abby Williams (Brentwood, N.H.) would ignite a rebuttal with a kill which was followed by a Skourtis kill. The Chargers would then go on to a six-point run with a pair of kills from Skourtis and a kill from Mollberg. The Huskies would respond with a run of their own behind a kill from Brianna Delloiacono and Johnson. The Chargers would attempt a late run behind a series of errors from the Huskies and a kill from Skourtis. The Huskies would rally behind three service aces to finalize the second set.
- The final set of the match began with an exchange of points from a Majenski kill, to a Delloiaccono kill, which would be met with a Skourtis kill and finalized with a kill from Madison Zimmer. The Chargers would then go on a run behind a pair of service aces from Skourtis, and a pair of kills from Majenski. The Huskies would respond with a kill from Sierra Castonguay. The Chargers would continue onto a late run with a pair of kills, one from Mollberg and one from Skourtis. The Huskies would take the last push of the evening with a pair of service aces, a pair of kills from Delloiacono and finish the game with one last service ace.
Inside the Numbers:
- Skourtis, Mollberg and Majenski led the offense with 13, six, and five kills respectively.
- Junior Brooke Patnode (Weare, N.H.) added 27 assists along with eight digs and a block.
- Defensively junior Audra Fontes (Fresno, Calif.) led with 15 digs.

The Chargers will return to the road Saturday for a 2:00PM match in New London, Connecticut against Connecticut College.
