Chargers Fall in Three Sets Against Keene State

NEW LONDON N.H. - The Colby-Sawyer women's volleyball team fell on Wednesday night by a 3-0 (25-11, 25-17, 25-16) final to Keene State.

Rapid Recap:

  • The Owls jumped to an early 8-0 lead in the first set to be stopped by a kill from junior Ally Majenski (Marshfield, Mass.). The Owls and Chargers would exchange four point runs behind a pair of kills from first year Delaney Skourtis (Tilton, N.H.). The Owls would then go on a five point run to bring the score to 18-5 before another kill from Skourtis. The teams would the exchange points with senior Abby Williams (Brentwood, N.H.) recording her first kill of the evening, followed by a Majenski kill and a kill from junior Brooke Patnode (Weare, N.H.). The Owls would finialize the set with a kill from Jessica Timothy. 
  • The Owls continued their dominance into the second set, jumping out to an early 4-0 lead behind a Timothy kill. The run would come to end with a junior Audra Fontes (Fresno, Calif.) service ace. The teams would exchange points with a kill from first year Ari Cuevas (Somersworth, N.H.). The Owls would then go on an nine point spree to bring the score to 15-7 before a pair of kills from Majenski would bring momentum to the Chargers. Junior Katie Mollberg (Naples, Fla.) would earn her first kill of the match, followed by another kill from Cuevas. The Owls would bring the score to 23-14 off of a service ace from Sarah Bartels before Majenski would record another kill for the Chargers. The Owls would hit their way to a second victory behind a kill from Sarah Bartels. 
  • The third set opened with the two teams going back and forth to bring the score to 9-7 in favor of the visitors. A service ace from Patnode and kill from Williams would keep the score close at 15-11, but a six point run from the Owls would steal the momentum bring the score to 22-14. A kill from Gigi Stake would end the match in favor of the Owls. 

Inside the Numbers:

  • Majenski led the offense with eight kills, followed by Mollberg with six kills. 
  • Patnode led the passing wtih 20 assists, and filled the stats with six digs, an ace and a block. 
  • Fontes rounded out the defense with nine digs.  

Up Next:
The Chargers will travel to Salem, Mass. Wednesday Oct. 4th to take on Salem State for a 6:00PM start.
