Chargers Sweep Salem State 3-0

Box Score SALEM, Mass. - The Colby-Sawyer women's volleyball team picked up their third win of the 2023 campaign Wednesday evening defeating Salem State University in three sets (25-20, 25-17, 25-22). 

Rapid Recap:
  • The Chargers came into the first set ready to take care of business, with junior Brooke Patnode (Weare, N.H.) notching a service ace and junior Katie Mollberg (Naples, Fla.) recording her first kill of the match. Salem State would battle back and forth with the Chargers exchanged kills, with first year Haley Hathorn (Hillsboro, N.H.), junior Ally Majenski (Marshfield, Mass.), and Mollberg to bring the score to 13-8 in favor of the Chargers. Mollberg would continue her dominance in the first set with three back-to-back kills bringing the score to 18-13, Salem State would respond with two kills of their own. Kills from senior Abby Williams (Brentwood, N.H.), Mollberg and Majenski would finalize the Chargers first set victory. 
  • Salem State would go on a run to start the second set bringing the score to 6-2 in favor of the home team. First year Delaney Skourtis (Tilton, N.H.) would attempt to get the Chargers rolling within the set, which would be followed shortly by a Williams kill. Salem State would capitalize off of attacking errors to bring the lead to 11-4. The Chargers would go on an eight point run highlighted by a Skourtis kill, an ace from senior Maria Avila (Goffstown, N.H.), and kill from Mollberg to bring the score to 17-16 in favor of the Chargers. The Chargers dominance would continue as they sealed their second set victory with final kill from Mollberg. 
  • The Chargers did not take their foot off of the gas in the third set with a Patnode service ace, kill from Majenski, and a pair of service aces from junior Audra Fontes (Fresno, Calif.) The Chargers would take a 15-9 advantage forcing Salem State to take a time out. The two teams would exchange points latter part of the set before a kill from first year Ari Cuevas (Somersworth, N.H.). 
Post Game Press: 
"The team was really connected today and we all came out swinging." said junior Audra Fontes (Fresno, Calif.). "The energy was exciting and we never let up. It felt great to connect and see my teammates kill the ball!"

Up Next: 
The Chargers will travel to Northfield Vermont to take on the Norwich Cadets Friday October 6th with a 6:00PM start time.
