Chargers Swept in Saturday Dual Match with Framingham State University

NEW LONDON, N.H. - The Colby-Sawyer women's volleyball team came up short Saturday against Framingham State University Rams (25-17, 25-22, 25-15) and (25-21, 20-25, 25-19, 25-15).

Rapid Recap (Match 1):
  • The teams battled early in the first set, exchanging points back and forth between kills from the Rams (Szymanski & Reynolds) and kills from junior Brooke Patnode (Weare, N.H) and first year Delaney Skourtis (Tilton, N.H.). Throughout the set the two teams would battle, exchanging aces and kills. The Chargers saw kills from junior Katie Mollberg (Naples, Fla.) and junior Ally Majenski (Marshfield, Mass.), while the Rams notched kills from Jaimee Lowe and Hailey Sanders. The Rams would have their breakthrough run to go up 22-16 behind four kills, and a service ace. The Chargers would attempt to respond with a late kill from first year Ari Cuevas (Somersworth, N.H.), but would fall to a Sanders kill.
  • The Rams started the second set with a jump firing kills and a handful of service aces bringing them to an early 7-2 lead. Skourtis would respond for the Chargers earning another kill in the match, which would be followed by a Majenski kill. This would ignite a run to bring the Chargers to a 15-13 lead. The Rams would respond with a run of their own bringing the score to 23-18, behind a pair of kills and a service ace. The Chargers would attempt a late run behind a block and kill from senior Abby Williams (Brentwood, N.H.).
  • The Chargers would start the third set behind a Mollberg kill and jump to an early 4-2 lead. The teams would then go back and forth throughout the middle of the set behind kills from Skourtis and Majenski, countered by kills from Emma Dobbins and Natalie Reynolds. The Rams would go on a long run behind services aces and kills which would finalize the first match.
Rapid Recap (Match 2):
  • The Chargers would jump to an early lead 5-2 behind a kill from Cuevas kill and a series of errors from the Rams. The teams would then battle for the lead between a kill from Lowe, errors from the Rams, and a kill from Cuevas. The Rams would begin a seven-point run with a series of kills and service aces. A match of the energy would come from the Chargers with a kill from Williams paired with errors from the Rams. The Rams would solidify the set win a kill from Sanders.
  • The Chargers would open the second set strongly with kills from Cuevas and Majenski. First Year Haley Hathorn (Hillsboro, N.H.) would join the stat sheet with a kill to keep the Chargers lead halfway through the set 14-10. The Rams would attempt a response with a service ace from Carly Beaulieu and kill from Anna Szymanski. The Chargers would finalize their set victory with a kill from Patnode and a kill from Maria Avila (Goffstown, N.H.).
  • The Charger victory would light fire behind the Rams for early lead in the third set. The Rams would see a kill from Sanders and Szymanski. Skourtis and Williams would go on to respond with two kills from the first year and one from the senior. The Rams would run with the rest of the set notching kills, service aces, and capitalizing off of Charger errors.
  • The Rams rallied on from the third set victory to run away with the fourth set ranking up 14 kills and limiting their errors to five. Sophomore Emma Rand (Merrimack, N.H.) would attempt to lead a Chargers run but the Rams would go on to prevail.
Inside the Numbers (Match 1):
  • Skourtis led the offense in the first match with six kills, followed closely by Mollberg and Majenski who had four kills each.
  • Defensively junior Olivia DeShane (Grand Rapids, Mich.) topped the stat sheet with eight digs.
  • Patnode would fill the stat sheet with 19 assists, seven digs, and one block.
Inside the Numbers (Match 2):
  • Mollberg led the offense in the second match with 12 kills, followed by Skourtis with seven and Majenski with six.
  • Avila and DeShane led the way defensively with eight digs a piece.
  • Patnode would fill the stat sheet with 23 assists, and one block.

The Chargers will continue on the road Wednesday for a 7:00PM match in Franklin, MA against the Bulldogs of Dean.
