WESTON, Mass. – The Colby-Sawyer women's lacrosse team earned a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) win over Regis College on Wednesday night by a 15-1 final score. The Chargers improve to 5-2 in conference play with the win against the Pride.
Rapid Recap:
- Regis started the game by taking an early 1-0 advantage after Morgan Pedro found the back of the net at the 14:36 mark. Shortly after, sophomore Sophia Kuhlthau (Cheshire, Conn.) responded by scoring her first goal of the contest from the free position to tie it at 1-1. Sophomore Heather Hanson (Barnstable, Mass.) then gave the Chargers a 2-1 led at the 8:06 mark scoring her 31st goal of the season. Senior Sydney Stevens (Laconia, N.H.) would end the first quarter by notching back-to-back goals featuring an assist from junior Olivia Romo (Marlboro, Vt.) to put the Chargers ahead 4-1 heading into the second quarter.
- Colby-Sawyer kept the attack rolling as Kuhlthau tallied another goal to make it 5-1. After a successful clear by the Pride, Madeline Conover got a shot off that was saved by sophomore AJ Paton (Exeter, N.H.). Stevens secured her hattrick with Chargers up a player following a Pride yellow card in the fifth minute. Junior Ella Lyford (Orange, Vt.) joined in on the scoring to make it 7-1 off the assist from first year Cecilia Ponzini (Windham, N.H.). Kuhlthau and Lyford each notched a goal apiece to extend Colby-Sawyer's advantage to 9-1. First year Elena Bronson (Bristol, Vt.) registered a goal off a Stevens assist putting the score at 10-1. Hanson would score in the final minute of the quarter to give the Chargers a 10-goal lead heading into halftime.
- In the third quarter, Ponzini found Stevens who laced the ball into the back of the net to make it 12-1. Later, Romo tallied her 17th goal of the season at the 9:45 mark to put Colby-Sawyer ahead 13-1. The Charger defense kept the Pride from getting a shot off in the quarter keeping the score at 13-1.
- Early in the fourth quarter, Vanessa Kozinski received a yellow card to put the Chargers up a player. Kuhlthau notched her fourth goal of the night from the free position to give Colby-Sawyer a 14-1 advantage. At the 3:08 mark, Kuhlthau once again found the back of the net to end the game with the Chargers defeating the Pride by a 15-1 final score.

"The team came out with a lot of energy and continued to capitalize on our speed over Regis every quarter," said sophomore
AJ Paton (Exeter, N.H). "We executed in every aspect that head coach
Emily Dewdney set for us which allowed us to come out on top today."
Stats & Figures:
- Kuhlthau led the offense with five goals along with two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Stevens ended the night with four goals, one assist, and two ground balls. Lyford and Hanson each tallied two goals apiece while Romo and Bronson each registered a goal.
- Paton earned the win after making six saves for the Chargers and allowing only one goal.
- Pedro scored the only goal for the Pride to go along with three ground balls while Daniela Mazo made five saves for Regis.
