Chargers Finish in Third at 2023 GNAC Outdoor Championship Meet

STANDISH, Maine – The Colby-Sawyer men's track and field team competed at 2023 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GANC) Outdoor Track & Field Championship over the weekend hosted by Saint Joseph's College of Maine. The Chargers finished third out of five teams at the championship after earning 138 points.   

Rapid Recap:
  • Junior Chase Adams (Brookline, N.H.) captured two first place finishes in the 110-meter hurdles after clocking in at 15.71 and the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 57.53.
  • In the 100-meter dash, first year JJ Davis (Bradford, N.H.) clinched first place after crossing the finish line in 11.42. Coming in third place was sophomore Jordan Kofos (Kittery, Maine) with a time of 11.64 and following closely behind was junior Joseph Branchaud (Tewksbury, Mass.) placing fifth with a time of 12.04.
  • Sophomore Hayden Goyette (Epsom, N.H.) placed first overall in the 800-meter run after clocking in at 2:05.28. Right behind him was sophomore Jesse Gushee (West Linn, Ore.) finishing the race in 2:07.09 to secure second place. Sophomore Aidan Weagle (Hudson, Mass.) placed fourth for the Chargers with a time of 2:15.38.
  • In the 5,000-meter run, Gushee finished in first place after crossing the finish line in 17:14.33. Sophomore Martin Steucek (Ashburnham, Mass.) also raced placing sixth overall with a time of 18:02.31.
  • In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, junior Jordan Piechowski (Windham, Maine) secured a second-place finish with a time of 10:43.91. Piechowski also competed in the 400-meter hurdles placing seventh with a time of 1:09.20.
  • Davis was the top Charger in the 200-meter dash finishing second overall with a time of 23.69. Next was Kofos placing fifth after clocking in at 24.38 while first year Kyle Gassiraro followed securing sixth place with a time of 24.42. Senior Dean Miller (Andover, Mass.) also competed in the event taking eighth place with a time of 24.74.
  • First year Jonathan Platti (North Granby, Conn.) ran the 400-meter dash in 55.90 good for a sixth-place finish.
  • The Chargers took second place in the 4x100-meter relay featuring Miller, Branchaud, Davis, and Kofos clocking in at 45.25. Colby-Sawyer also competed in the 4x400-meter relay finishing in fourth with Gassiraro, Platti, Kofos, and Davis on the squad.
  • In the field events, Branchaud placed fourth in the long jump with a mark of 5.97-meters while Davis took seventh with a 5.79-meter mark. Sophomore Drew Doughty (Bedford, N.H.) captured second place in the pole vault event after earning a mark of 2.90-meters. In the hammer throw, sophomore Conor Moynihan (Tewksbury, Mass.) threw 29.87-meters good for a fifth-place finish. Moynihan also competed in the shot-put event securing fourth place after throwing a mark of 9.92-meters.

The Colby-Sawyer outdoor track and field team will prepare for the NCAA Division III New England Regionals taking place on May 5th and 6th in Springfield, Massachusetts.
