Chargers Fall on Senior Day to Dean College

NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer baseball team picked dropped their final game of the season on Saturday falling by a 17-2 margin to Dean College. The second half of the double-header was canceled due to rain. Before the game seniors Ian Turpel (Cohasset, Mass.), Cooper O'Brien (Vergennes, Vt.), Ben Brennan (Marblehead, Mass.), Max Lewis (Durham, N.H.) and Jake Choiniere (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) were honored in the senior day festivities. 

Rapid Recap:
  • The Bulldogs offense came to play in the early innings scoring a run in the first, three in the second and five more in the third inning to take a commanding 8-0 lead after three innings. Jacob Paschetto and Tyler Giambra led Dean college, each contributing a RBI double in the early going. In the fourth inning the Bulldogs continued its offensive surge getting RBI singles by Seth Cruz and Giambra to push the lead to 10-0. 
  • The Chargers offense finally pushed something across the plate in the fourth inning as Brennan singled home first year Cam Carignan (Rutland, Mass.) who was on via a single of his own. Dean countered with six runs on six hits in the top half of the fifth inning highlighted by a two-run blast by Cam Watkins. In the bottom of the fifth the Chargers would plate one final run as first year Jared Schmitt (Surry, N.H.) singled to center field and swiped second before scoring on a RBI groundout by first year Devin Montalvo (Coram, N.Y.). In the final inning the Bulldogs would get one final run as Giambra homered to left field to plate the 17th run for the visitors. 
On the Mound:
  • Junior Zach Rogers (Mashpee, Mass.) picked up the loss tossing three and two thirds innings allowing 10 runs (eight earned) while getting a strikeout.
  • Junior Matt Miller (Dracut, Mass.) followed getting four outs, while allowing six runs. 
  • First year Justin Powers (Peabody, Mass.) pitched the sixth inning allowing just a lone hit while sitting down a pair. 
  • Sophomore Matt Bennett (Kingston, Mass.) closed things out allowing one run with a punch out. 
At the Plate:
  • Schmitt led the offense going 2-for-3 with a double, run scored and a stolen base. 
  • Carignan added a 2-for-3 day with a run scored. 
  • Lewis contributed a 2-for-3 effort, while Brennan went 1-for-2 with a RBI and a walk.
Up Next:
The Chargers conclude the season finishing ninth in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC).
