NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer women's lacrosse picked up a key Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory on Wednesday defeating the Norwich University Cadets by a 14-4 margin.
Rapid Recap:
- The Chargers kicked off the scoring in the first quarter as senior Hannah Marquis (Weare, N.H.) on a feed by sophomore Heather Hanson (Barnstable, Mass.). Junior Olivia Romo (Marlboro, Vt.) followed it up with a laser to put the Chargers up 2-0. Hanson followed with a free position strike before senior Sydney Stevens (Laconia, N.H.) tallied her 34th goal of the season on a pass from Romo. Sophomore Emma Webster (Campton, N.H.) shined on the defensive side with a pair of caused turnovers and ground balls in the first quarter with the first leading to a goal for sophomore Sophia Kuhlthau (Cheshire, Conn.) to make it 5-0 headed into the second quarter.
- Colby-Sawyer continued to hold the shutout as Hanson placed a free position strike in the back of the net to extend the lead to six with 12:22 to play. Stevens followed with her second of the day to give the Chargers a touchdown lead before Marquis continued the scoring with 7:08 left in the half with a free position goal. Kuhlthau followed quickly before Hanson doubled up the end of the first quarter lead to give the home team a 10-0 lead with 30 minutes to play.
- The Chargers continued to soar in the second half pushing the lead to 11-0 ad Stevens finished off the hat trick. The Cadets responded with their biggest run of the night scoring three-straight to cut the Charger lead to 11-3, but Kuhlthau hit the back of the net for the third time to put Colby-Sawyer up 12-3 headed into the fourth.
- Norwich picked up their final score in the game to kick off the fourth. Marquis pocketed the hat-trick next to keep the Chargers ahead by nine goals. Kuhlthau finished off the scoring with a free position strike to put away the Cadets.
Player Spotlight:
"This week we really worked on defense and making sure we knew when to slide and when to help", said sophomore
Emma Webster (Campton, N.H.). "We really worked on our communication and just overall being a unite. I'm proud of our entire defensive unite today. We hustled hard today."

- Webster highlighted a tremendous day for the Chargers defensively picking up a season-high five ground balls and tying her career-best with six caused turnovers. Sophomore Hannah Himes (Williston, Vt.) added four caused turnovers to go with three grounders.
- Kuhlthau led the offense with four goals to go with three caused turnovers and three ground balls. Hanson netted three goals and an assist, while Marquis and Stevens each registered a hat-trick.
- Sophomore AJ Paton (Exeter, N.H.) picked up her 10th win of the season making five saves in the cage.
