BOSTON, Mass.
– The Colby-Sawyer women's track and field team competed in the 2023 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Indoor Track & Field Championship on Sunday at Boston University Track and Tennis Center. The women placed third overall with a team score of 81 points.
Rapid Recap:
- Senior Shannon O'Connell (Peabody, Mass.) had a strong performance for the Chargers in the women's 5,000-meter run. She secured a first-place finish with a time of 19:02.30. O'Connell also competed in the 3,000-meter run securing second place after clocking in at 11:29.32.
- Junior Ashley Keleher (Mashpee, Mass.) clinched two second place finishes for Colby-Sawyer in the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash races. Once again, she continued to shatter her own indoor school records after running the 60-meter dash in 8.05 and the 200-meter dash in 26.62. Keleher previously set the 60-meter dash indoor record last weekend at the Panther Invitational II and the 200-meter indoor record during the Wheaton College Invitational. In the field events, Keleher earned second place in the triple jump with a mark of 10.61 meters and took fourth place in the long jump with a mark of 4.59 meters.
- In the 800-meter run, sophomore Tessa Millette (Barrington, N.H.) placed second overall with a time of 2:36.18. She also ran the one mile run in 5:49.95 which was good for third place.
- Sophomore Samantha Carus (Brownfield, Maine) also competed in the one mile run placing sixth overall with a time of 5:51.93. In the 5,000-meter run, Carus placed fourth overall after finishing in 20:07.42.
- First year Leah O'Neill (Peabody, Mass.) and first year Adriana Nadeau (Londonderry, N.H.) both ran the 3,000-meter run taking the fifth and sixth places spots for the Chargers.
- In the field events, junior Faith Mazzapica (Tewksbury, Mass.) competed in the weight throw event placing sixth overall with a throw of 10.36 meters. She also threw in the shot-put event earning eleventh place with a mark of 8.02 meters. Junior Anna Bieszczad (Grantham, N.H.) placed seventh in the triple jump event after recording a 9.17-meter mark.
