PAXTON, Mass. – The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team dropped a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) game on Saturday against Anna Maria College by a final score of 69-56.
Rapid Recap:
- The AMCATS struck first after Patty Agbeh made a layup to begin the first quarter, but a good jumper by sophomore Marissa Holt (Alfred, Maine) would tie at 2-2. After sophomore Gabby Lucertini (Brandford, Conn.) evened the score at 4-4, Anna Maria would then go on a 6-0 run make it 10-4. Sophomore Courtney Brewster (Castleton, Vt.) made her return after an injury and scored her first bucket to disrupt the AMCATS attack. Anna Maria hit three triples to end the first quarter with a 19-8 advantage.
- Sophomore Megan Molettieri (Pelham, N.H.) knocked down a three ball for the Chargers to start the second quarter and make it 19-11. The Chargers kept battling thanks to the offensive efforts by Holt and Brewster who each tallied a bucket. After senior Emily Parent (Oakland, Maine) drained a three pointer, Anna Maria generated a 13-2 run giving them their largest lead of the game at 40-20. Following a made three-pointer by Molettieri, the AMCATS would hold a 40-23 advantage heading into halftime.
- In the third quarter, the AMCATS added four points to their lead highlighted by a layup and made free throw by Marinique Reddin. Brewster and first year Elyza Mitchell (Spofford, N.H.) each made their way to the free throw line combining to make three of the four attempts to make it 44-26. With under three minutes left in the quarter, the Chargers went on a 11-0 run started by a triple from Molettieri and ended with a layup from Brewster to cut Anna Maria's led to eight points. The AMCATS grew their advantage back into double-digits and headed to the final quarter with a 52-41 lead.
- Anna Maria started strong in the fourth quarter after going on a 7-0 run. Lucertini finished a layup while Holt completed both free throw attempts to make it 59-45. The Chargers continued to battle but the AMCATS were able to hold off Colby-Sawyer and win the game by a 69-56 final.
Stats & Figures:
- Holt led the Chargers in scoring with 16 points (3-11 FG, 1-6 3-FG, 9-9 FT) along with five rebounds, two steals, and a block. Molettieri (3-12 FG, 3-10 3-FG) and Brewster (4-12 FG, 1-2 FT) each ended the day with nine points apiece.
- Reddin dropped 18 points (6-12 FG, 3-5 3-FG, 3-4 FT) for the AMCATS and recorded nine rebounds, four assists, and a pair of steals.
- The AMCATS outshot the Chargers 34.6% to 24.0% from the behind the arc and held an 18-15 advantage in points off the bench.
