NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball fell in the first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest of the year by a 80-57 final.
Rapid Recap:
- The Chargers jumped ahead by a 5-0 margin after a finish by junior Courtney Brewster (Castleton, Vt.) and a three-pointer by sophomore Elyza Mitchell (Spofford, N.H.). The Falcons countered with seven-straight to hold the lead. Mitchell finished at the basket to even the score, but a 13-0 run by the visitors jumped the lead to 20-7. First year Catherine Chick (Glen, N.H.) stopped the bleeding with a finish and a free throw as the lead grew to 27-12. Graduate student Lia Raynowska (Brentwood, N.H.) had a tough layup in the paint off an offensive board and a jumper by Brewster ended the first quarter 29-16.
- Junior Marissa Holt (Alfred, Maine) and Chick each scored to keep the score at 32-20, but four-straight by the Falcons pushed the lead to 16 points. Mitchell kick started a 8-0 run to cut the deficit to 36-28, but Albertus Magnus closed on a 6-2 to hold a 12 point lead into the break.
- The Falcons came out of the break on fire with a 11-2 run to jump the lead to 53-32. After a timeout Albertus Magnus used another 11-0 spurt to push the lead 32 points with 3:43 remaining in the third quarter. Holt got an and-one bucket to try to start a 5-0 run, but a 8-0 counter put the game at 72-37 with 10 minutes remaining.
- Brewster attacked the hoop to start the fourth quarter with an old fashioned three-point play to start the fourth quarter. Mitchell added four points part of a 10-0 run to drop the visitor lead to 25. Chick added a highlight reel and-one followed by a layup by Holt to cut the deficit to 77-55. The Chargers ran out of time falling by a 80-57 margin.

Tim Viola. "We were tough on the offensive glass and had moments of resiliency. After a tough third quarter we really battled back in the fourth."
Inside the Numbers:
- Chick tallied a career-high 16 points (7-14 FG, 0-3 3PT, 2-3 FT), to go with six rebounds. Holt registered 13 points (5-12 FG, 0-4 3PT, 3-3 FT). Mitchell tabbed 11 points (4-11 FG, 1-3 3PT, 2-2 FT), eight rebounds and a swipe, while Brewster added 11 points (5-9 FG, 0-1 3PT, 1-2 FT) and eight rebounds.
- Jakara Murray-Leach paced the Falcons with 24 points (11-14 FG, 0-1 3PT, 2-2 FT), 10 boards and two assists. Caitlyn Scott added 19 points (8-15 FG, 3-8 3PT) and eight assists.
- The Falcons added 36 fast break points while the Chargers had 11, while Colby-Sawyer edged Albertus Magnus by a 16-6 second chance points margin.
