Chargers Capture Fourth-Straight GNAC Title on Saturday

STANDISH, Maine - For the fourth consecutive time the Colby-Sawyer women's cross country team are Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Champions after winning the championship meet on Saturday. The Chargers ended the day with a team score of 35 ahead of second place Regis with a score of 81. 

Rapid Recap: 
  • Sophomore Adriana Nadeau (Londonderry, N.H.) became the GNAC Runner of the Year for 2023 winning the 6k event at a time of 25:23.1. Nadeau won the event by over 36 second for the Chargers. 
  • Junior captain Tessa Millette (Barrington, N.H.) crossed the line in third place for the Chargers at a time of 26:13.0. Junior Heather Hanson (Barnstable, Mass.) was next for Colby-Sawyer in 9th at a time of 28:16.9. 
  • Sophomore Leah O'Neill (Peabody, Mass.) crossed fourth for the Chargers in 11th, while first year Maisy Hill (Bristol, Vt.) rounded out the scorers in 16th at a 28:56.6 time.
  • This is the first GNAC title for head coach Ryan Purrington at Colby-Sawyer. 
Post Race Press:
"I am incredibly proud of the team", said sophomore Adriana Nadeau (Londonderry, N.H.). "We have had many challenges this season. With this tough course everyone went out and raced hard, and everyone did what we needed to ensure the win."

Team Results:
Colby-Sawyer College eclipsed the nine-team women's field with 35 points, well ahead of runner-up Regis College (81 points). Norwich University (110), Lasell University (113), Emmanuel College (118), Simmons University (125), Johnson & Wales (139), Saint Joseph's (Maine) (172), and Dean College (272) rounded out the group of competing teams. University of Saint Joseph, Mitchell College, New England College, Elms College, and Rivier University also fielded individuals in the conference title meet but did not score.

Up Next:
The Chargers will next compete in the NCAA East Region Championships at Franklin Park on November 11th.
