Chargers Can't Keep Up with Plymouth State University

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team fell to 1-4 on Tuesday night falling to Plymouth State University by a 47-31 final.

Rapid Recap:
  • The Panthers jumped ahead 7-2 with the only bucket coming from sophomore Elyza Mitchell (Spofford, N.H.). Free throws by junior Gabby Lucertini (Branford, Conn.) and Mitchell cut the deficit to three points, but Plymouth State used a 7-0 run to lead by a 14-4 margin. Junior Courtney Brewster (Castlton, Vt.) added two free throws followed by a pair at the charity stripe by Lucertini to trail 15-8 headed into the second quarter.
  • The second quarter opened up with a three-pointer and then a jumper by junior Marissa Holt (Alfred, Maine) to trim the Panther lead to 17-13, but five-straight by Ashley Stephens and a layup by Lea Crompton put the lead back to double-digits. Holt drilled another triple to try and start the Colby-Sawyer comeback as the home team led 26-18 into the second half.
  • The Charger offense hit a lull in the third quarter as four points by Stephens pushed the lead back to 12 points. Junior Megan Molettieri (Pelham, N.H.) nailed her only three of the night to get the score to 30-21, but a closing 7-1 run by the Panthers pushed the lead to 15 headed into the fourth.
  • A 10-1 run by Plymouth State opened the fourth quarter halted by a jumper by Lucertini. Four more from the line by Brewster and Lucertini cut the game to 18, but the game would only see one more score on a layup by junior Natalie Panagrosso (Wallingford, Conn.).
