Chargers Fall Short In Four Sets Against Johnson And Wales

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Colby-Sawyer women's volleyball team dropped Saturday afternoons match to Johnson and Wales in four sets (18-25, 25-21,16-25,12-25). 

Rapid Recap:
  • The two teams battled in the first set exchanging points throughout. The Chargers earned the first point of the set off a service error, but the score was quickly evened from a Peyton Oliver kill. The Chargers first kill of the afternoon came from junior Katie Mollberg (Naples, Fla.), which was followed by a kill from junior Ally Majenski (Marshfield, Mass.). The Wildcats would go on their first run of the match bringing the score to 8-5. The Chargers would even the score with a run of their own highlighted by a service ace from junior Brooke Patnode (Weare, N.H.). The Wildcats would capitalize off of attacking errors and take a 18-15 lead, to be stopped by a kill from first year Delaney Skourtis (Tilton, N.H.). The Chargers would attempt a comeback late in the set with another kill from Majenski but a kill from the Wildcats would finalize the first set. 
  • The Chargers would begin the second set with a kill from Mollberg and a service ace from junior Audra Fontes (Fresno, Calif.). A Wildcats kill from Ajie Jagne would stunt the Chargers run but the visitors would capitalize on the home team errors to take a 9-5 lead. The two teams would go on to exchange points until the Wildcats would put together a service ace and kill from Peyton Oliver to bring the score to 18-17 in favor of the home team. Kills from Skourtis and Majenski would bring the Chargers back on top 20-18. The Wildcats would attempt a comeback with a kill from Sarah Miller, but a kill from Skourtis would finalize the Chargers set victory. 
  • The Wildcats would dominate the third set going on multiple runs throughout. A kill from Majenski would end the Wildcats first run and bring the score to 6-9 in favor of the Wildcats. The Wildcats would take advantage of errors from the Chargers combined with kills from Miller to take a 19-8 lead. A service ace from Mollberg and kill from Fontes would highlight a late push from the Chargers but a kill from Jagne would finalize the set. 
  • The fourth set began in the Wildcats favor with an ace from Miller. A pair of kill from Mollberg would get the Chargers on the board but the Wildcats would go on an eleven point run to take a 14-4 lead over the visiting team. Senior Abby Williams (Brentwood, N.H.) would notch a kill to stop the momentum, but the Wildcats were rolling. The Wildcats would go on to a 25-12 set victory. 
Inside the Numbers:
  • Majenski would lead the offense with eight kills on the day followed closely by Skourtis who talled seven. 
  • Patnode led the passing wtih 19 assists, and registering nine digs. 
  • Fontes held down the defensive end with 11 digs. 

Up Next:
The Chargers will travel to Rivier Tuesday evening with a 7:00PM start.
