Chargers Fall to New England College in Four

HENNIKER, N.H. - The Colby-Sawyer women's volleyball team dropped Wednesday evenings match to New England College in four sets (25-22, 14-25, 20-25, 19-25). 

Rapid Recap:
  • The two teams battled throught the first set exchanging points throughout. The Pilgrims earned the first point of the set, but a quick block from junior Ally Majenski (Marshfield, Mass.) would even the score. The Chargers would go on the first run of the match seeing kills from Majenski and junior Brooke Patnode (Weare, N.H.) to bring the score 10-6 in favor of the visitors. The Pilgrims would end the run with a kill of their own to which the Chargers responded with another Majenski kill. A pair of kills from junior Katie Mollberg (Naples, Fla.) would put the Chargers up 17-12 before the Pilgrims saw a kill and capitalized off an error. The Pilgrims would attempt a late run bringing the score 20-24 but a kill from Mollberg and first year Delaney Skourtis (Tilton, N.H.) would finalize the set in favor of the Chargers. 
  • The second set was dominated early by the Pilgrims opening with a 7-2 lead forcing the Chargers to call a timeout. Skourtis would tab another kill post time out but the Pilgrims did not take their foot off of the pedal. A pair of kills from Amarosa and attacking errors from the Chargers would put the home team up 12-6. The Chargers would fail to string together points but would see a late kill from senior Abby Williams (Brentwood, N.H) before a Pilgrims kill finalized the second set. 
  • The Chargers jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the third set with first year Ari Cuevas (Somersworth, N.H.) adding her name to the kill sheet. The Pilgrims would go on a six point run to even the score at 10. Kills from Majenski and first year Bree Bacon (Brookline, Mass.) would bring the lead back 13-10 but the Pilgrims battled. A late run from the home team would finalize the set in their favor. 
  • The fourth set began as a battle with the teams exchanging points off of kills and errors. A six point run highlighted by a Patnode service ace would bring the Chargers up 11-9 before the Pilgrims responded with a run of their own. A pair of kills from Torrance Robertson would bring the Pilgrims up 16-13 before a Williams kill would attempt to break the momentum. The Pilgrims did not look back finishing the final set with a kill from Sampson. 
Inside the Numbers:
  • Majenski led the offense for the Chargers registering 13 kills and one block. 
  • Patnode led the passing with 25 assists, a pair of aces, and seven digs. 
  • Bacon helped hold down the defense with 11 digs on the evening. 

Up Next:
The Chargers will travel to Mitchell Saturday afternoon for a pair of games with a 1:00PM and 3:00PM start.
