Chargers Battle to Tough 3-2 Loss at Emmanuel

BOSTON, Mass. – The Colby-Sawyer men's soccer team fell Tuesday evening by a 3-2 final to Emmanuel.   

Rapid Recap:  

  • The Chargers and Saints battled in the early going with both keepers having to make saves. The Chargers struck first in the conference matchup, with sophomore Evan Thomas (Sudbury, Vt.) finding the back of the net at the 15th minute mark to notch his first collegiate goal. The two teams would continue to battle in the midfield until at the 37th minute mark Emmanuel's Renato Martinez would bring the game to an even 1-1. The Chargers would register four shots within the half with the Saints marking seven shots. 
  • The second half would continue to go back and forth, with the Saints firing the most shots early. Junior Ryan Wilson (Mattapoisett, Mass.) would notch the Chargers first shot on net but was stopped by the Saint's keeper. The Chargers would continue to hold their own within the midfield, but the Saints would go ahead 2-1 in the 67th minute with a goal from RJ Darrell. Under three minutes later the Chargers would respond with a cross off a corner kick taken by Wilson, which would be headed into the back of the net by first year Judson DiMaria (Acton, Mass.). The Chargers would keep the pressure with another shot from Thomas, but a transition ball by the Saints would lead to the game winning goal from Adom Oshagan in the 75th minute. 

Inside the Numbers:

  • DiMaria and Thomas led the offensive attack with a goal on the evening, Thomas's goal being his first collegiate goal. 
  • Bartolon registered five saves on the evening with three goals allowed. 
  • The Saints held a 21-9 shot differential, with the Chargers having four shots on target.

The Chargers will travel to Johnson and Wales on Saturday, October 7th with an 12:00 PM start.
