NASHUA, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team fell to Rivier University during their Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest on Thursday night by a 63-44 final. The Raiders improve to a 4-1 conference record with the victory over the Chargers.
Rapid Recap:
- Senior Emily Parent (Oakland, Maine) opened the scoring with a three-pointer to give the Chargers an early advantage. The Raiders then went on a 7-0 run that was started by a layup from Lyric Grumblatt. Sophomore Natalie Panagrosso (Wallingford, Conn.) responded by finisging an and-one bucket after being fouled by Anna Stenger to shrink Rivier's lead to 7-6. The Raiders would secure the final four points of the quarter to put them 11-6. Rivier continued their attack in the second quarter by going on a 8-0 run to extend their advantage to 19-6. First year Elyza Mitchell (Spofford, N.H.) got on the scoreboard for the Chargers after making a layup. After the Raiders strung together seven points to go up 26-8, the Chargers offensive started clicking thanks to sophomore Courtney Brewster (Castleton, Vt.) who put up five points at the end of the quarter to reduce the Raiders lead to 33-20 heading into halftime.
- The second half began with action on both ends of the court with sophomore Marissa Holt (Alfred, Maine) hitting a three-pointer and senior Lia Raynowska (Brentwood, N.H.) finishing both free throws. The Raiders continued to put pressure on the Chargers defensive and would head into the final quarter with a 49-30 lead. Parent drained another triple off the assist from sophomore Gabby Lucertini (Brandford, Conn.) to start the scoring for the Chargers in the fourth quarter. Brewster followed with a layup to make it 53-35. After Hannah Muchemore hit a three point shot, sophomore Megan Molettieri (Pelham, N.H.) responded by sinking a triple of her own. The Chargers kept battling towards the end of the quarter, but the Raiders would take the win with a 63-44 final score.
Notes & Notables:
- Parent led the Chargers in scoring with nine points (3-9 FG, 3-8 3-FG), four rebounds, one assist and a block. Brewster ended the night with seven points (2-8 FG, 3-8 3-FG) was the only other Charger in double-figures with 10 points (5-11 FG, 0-1 3-FG, 0-1 FT) to go along with eight rebounds. Lucertini added nine points (3-8 FG, 3-4 FT), nine rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals.
- Muchemore led the Falcons with 18 points (6-11 FG, 1-4 3-FG, 5-6 FT), four rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals.
- The Chargers shot 27.5% (9-25) from the field while the Raiders shot 37.9% (25-66). Rivier also outrebounded Colby-Sawyer 45-36.
