Chargers Bested by Albertus Magnus College

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball returned to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Tuesday, dropping a contest to Albertus Magnus College by a 123-94 final. 

Rapid Recap: 
  • The Chargers and Falcons were knotted up at 6-6 after a jumper by sophomore Kevin Cummings (Portsmouth, N.H.), before the home team used a 7-0 run to take the early lead. After a junior Kadir Arca (Istanbul, Turkey) three the Chargers only trailed 20-17, but another 10-0 run gave Albertus Magnus a double-digit advantage. After a triple by Cummings the lead continued to grow for the Falcons after another 5-0 run. Colby-Sawyer continued to battle with Arca getting a dunk with 20 seconds left in the first half, but the lead stayed at 55-36 heading into halftime. 
  • The Falcons continued to soar in the second half scoring the first five points of the quarter to push the lead to 24 points. After a free-throw for senior Scott Lampron (Concord, N.H.) the lead ballooned to 32 points after another run by the home team. The Falcons lead would reach as much as 44 points in the second half before a 12-2 run by the Chargers highlighted by back-to-back threes by first year Daniel Jordan (Coral Springs, Fla.) and senior Zack Caraballo (Salem, N.H.). Consecutive three-pointers by first year Sadiq Abdullahi (Homestead, Fla.) ended the game for Colby-Sawyer as the Falcons picked up the 123-94 win.
Notes & Notables:
  • Abdullahi led the Chargers with a career-high 14 points (6-10 FG, 2-4 3-FG) to go with six rebounds in 23 minutes. Arca also had a career-best 14 points (6-13 FG, 1-2 3-FG, 1-2 FT) with three rebounds. Sophomore Mike Joanou (Burbank, Calif.) added a career-best 11 points (5-5 FG, 1-1 3-FG) and three boards. 
  • Antonio Bonilla paced the Falcons with 20 points (8-15 FG, 4-9 3-FG) in just 18 minutes on the floor. 
  • The Chargers had a season-best 62 bench points compared to just 53 from the Falcons. Albertus Magnus used a 58-34 advantage in the painted area and a 42-15 fast break point differential in their favor in the win.

The Chargers will stay on the road for a Thursday tilt against inner-state rival Rivier University with a 7:00 PM tip.
